India’s Best B-Schools


The Indian School of Business (ISB) is a private business school founded in 2001 by two senior executives of McKinsey & Company, Rajat Gupta and Anil Kumar. ISB is the first business school in India to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). However, ISB is not accredited by the Indian statutory body, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as ISB has chosen not to apply for its accreditation. ISB has been ranked 33rd in the world in the 2015 Financial Times Global MBA Rankings.

Located, on the west coast of India, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has consistently been topping the list of best management school in the country year aer year. Led by Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Shri. Kasturbhai Lalbhai and proactively supported by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Dr. Jivraj Mehta, a group of enlightened individuals set up IIMA. In 2008, IIMA also became the rst business school in the country to be awarded EQUIS accreditation. This accreditation awarded by the EFMD certi es that the quality of IIMA’s academic processes and programmes are on par with the best business schools globally that have similar accreditation.

Indian Institute of Management Calcutta

XLRI Jamshedpur
XLRI – Xavier School of Management was established in 1949, as Xavier Labor Relations Institute, at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. XLRI is a Jesuit managed school and is not only India’s oldest B-school but also one of the oldest B -schools of the world. XLRI started off by offering courses for management and trade unions in 1949. XLRI is ranked 13th among ‘Top 50 Management Institutes for Research and Teaching’ in India by National Institutional Ranking Framework (MHRD) in 2016. It is approved by AICTE and recognized by the AIU and Government of India. It has earned the International accreditation by the AMBA and AACSB. XLRI has collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to work towards the development of education, employability, environment etc. XLRI is in partnership with prestigious foreign universities like Tulane University, ESADE Business School for student-faculty exchange, research, training etc.

Indian Institute of Management Lucknow
The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM-L), established in 1984, was the fourth IIM to be established by the Government of India. IIM-L is recognized as an “Institution of Excellence” by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. IIM-L is ranked among the top 5 B-schools in India. It has a satellite campus in Noida where the executive programs of IIM-L take place. IIML moulds its students into value driven leaders, managers and global players. The institute undertakes a diverse range of academic activities aimed at creation, dissemination and application of management knowledge and practice. Management Development Institute (MDI) was established in 1973 in collaboration with several global institutions like UNDP, UNIDO, World Bank and ILO, with an initial grant received from KfW, West Germany, and with the active support of Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI). MDI is accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and is the first business school in India to get that accreditation. The PG Programmes in Management offered by MDI are recognized and accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. Its PGPM has been awarded “A” Grade by the ‘National Board of Accreditation’ of All India Council for Technical Education. Various surveys have consistently ranked MDI amongst the top B-Schools of the country.

The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM-K) founded in 1996, in collaboration with the State Government of Kerala, was the 5th IIM to be established. IIM Kozhikode was the first institute in Asia to offer a distance learning programme in management for working executives. This year-long Executive Management Education Programme is today considered to be the best distance learning program available in the country having 450 class contact hours. The institute has a strong International Exchange Programme for students and faculty with several leading management institutes in EU and ASEAN countries like SDA, Bacconi, Jonkoping, Sweden, Copenhagen Business School, Denmark, ESCAP-EAP, France; University of Queensland, Austria, Victoria University of Wellington and so on.

FMS, established in 1954 under the aegis of the Delhi University, is one of the oldest B-schools in India. FMS started off in the premises of the Delhi School of Economics. Later, the department of commerce of the Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), now the Delhi Technological University (DTU), was abolished and the Faculty of Management Studies was established. FMS has the unique privilege to be part of one of the premier universities world – the University of Delhi – with some of the finest departments in Economics, Law, Sociology, Commerce and Operations Research. SVKM’s NMIMS deemed to be University’s Mumbai Campus is conveniently located at JVPD Scheme, close to the Domestic and International Terminals of the airport in the financial and commercial capital of the country. It has 10 schools and 1 center of excellence (viz. IIPS) in its ambit with each school operating like an independent business unit and having its separate infrastructure. The institute was established in 1981 by the parent body Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM). It has been awarded “Five Star” rating and “A” grade by the NAAC and UGC respectively. NMIMS has also been awarded a “A***” rating by CRISIL.
