BJP who trumpets ‘Achhe Din’ has punctured economy: Priyanka

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleged that BJP government which trumpets “Achhe Din” has deflated the economy. Her remarks come after the economic growth fell to a six-year low of 5% in April to June quarter. “Neither GDP growth is there nor does the currency strength exist,” she tweeted, adding that the government should clarify who is responsible for this.

19 lakh people excluded from final list of NRC in Assam

Out of the 3.30 crore applicants, over 19 lakh people were excluded from the final list of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam released on Saturday. Those excluded can appeal to the Foreigners Tribunal to challenge the exclusion within 120 days. The government said 100 tribunals are currently functioning and 200 more will start functioning by September first week.

6 dead, 43 injured after cylinders explode in chemical factory in Maha

At least six people have died and 43 have been injured in an explosion of cylinders at a chemical factory in Maharashtra’s Dhule on Saturday, police said. As many as 100 workers were said to be present in the factory when the incident took place. Various teams of police, disaster management and fire brigade are conducting rescue operations.

Revoking Article 370 is India’s internal matter: Australian envoy

Australian High Commissioner to India Harinder Sidhu has said that Australia respects India’s position that the decision to revoke Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir is its internal matter. “Australia’s long-held view on Kashmir has been that it should be resolved bilaterally by India and Pakistan,” Sidhu asserted. “We do hope that both countries act with restraint,” she added.

Mumbai court summons Rahul over ‘commander-in-thief’ remark against PM

A Mumbai court has summoned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over a criminal defamation case against him for calling PM Narendra Modi “commander-in-thief” last year while taking a dig at him over Rafale deal. The Congress leader has been asked to appear in the court on October 3. The case was filed by BJP worker Mahesh Shrishrimal.

Google to pay up to $200 mn to settle FTC probe into YouTube

Google will reportedly pay between $150 million-$200 million to settle a Federal Trade Commission investigation into alleged violations of children’s privacy laws on YouTube. Investigations found that Google collected data of children under the age of 13 who used YouTube. The complaints allegedly date back as far as 2015. The settlement has been sent to Department of Justice for review.

Healthcare crisis reports in Kashmir baseless: J&K administration

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday denied reports claiming a shortage of medicines or healthcare crisis in the Valley. Calling the reports “baseless”, the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), J&K urged people to not believe in “rumours and fake news”. Nearly 5,000 major surgeries have been performed in Srinagar hospitals from August 5 till date, DIPR tweeted.

Death toll in Maharashtra chemical factory explosion rises to 12

The death toll in chemical factory explosion in Maharashtra’s Dhule has risen to 12 and as many as 58 people have been injured in the incident. “Prima facie, multiple cylinders exploded at the factory,” police said. Expressing grief over the incident, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased.

2 men killed in police encounter with sand mafia in Rajasthan

Two criminals were killed and four others were injured in an exchange of fire between sand mafia and police personnel on Friday, said the police. The gunfight took place after the Basai Dang SHO received information on the movement of sand mafia and attempted to nab the criminals. Meanwhile, a policeman was injured and is undergoing treatment in a hospital.
