B-School Calling

As India’s b-school education evolves to position itself on the world map, can we gain the brain seeking entry to foreign institutes?

India, one of the oldest civilisations, has the world’s youngest population. And investing in quality education is the need of the hour to turn them into assets. The middle class in India spends almost 15-20 per cent of its income on education. With education loans easily available, students are increasingly opting for foreign education. The Indian government too is setting ambitious targets for enhancing the quality of education to make it on a par with international institutes.

Business management is one of the most preferred career options attracting students from across the social strata. Several B-schools in India have been successful in shaping young minds, yet the brain drain to foreign destinations remains a challenge. Factors such as quality faculty, innovative teaching methods, international exposure, diverse options and better lifestyle lure Indian students to go abroad and earn a foreign degree. To retain the talent base, Indian government has proposed reforms to allow foreign universities to offer degrees in India. Even the IITs have petitioned the HRD ministry to allow them to hire foreign faculty to help fill the estimated 40 per cent shortfall in qualified professors needed to achieve the ambitious growth target.

Excellent campus placements and partnership of the public and private sectors gearing up to provide exciting career opportunities to students is a hope for many to stay back. Moreover, the possibility of foreign players establishing their base in the country, which also projects considerable employment opportunities coming up next in the line cannot be overruled. The big ticket to leading business schools abroad is a dream for many young aspirants, but with the advancements and developments, India is also aiming to provide better platform and exposure to the youth.
