KANGAROO KIDS EDUCATION

Delhi Public School, established in 1949, functioned from a few tents pitched on the ground cleared from the onslaught of brambles. KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA

The Kendriya Vidyalayas are a system of central government schools in India that have been instituted under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). It comprises over a thousand schools in India and three abroad. The system came into being in 1963 under the name ‘Central Schools’. Later, the name was changed to Kendriya Vidyalaya. All the schools are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Its objective is to educate children of the Indian Defence Services personnel who are often posted to remote locations. With the army starting its own Army Public Schools, the service was extended to all central government employees.

D.A.V. PUBLIC SCHOOL

DAV College  is the largest non-government organization in the field of education in India today. It has a glorious past steeped in the history of India, our great nation. PRESIDENCY COLLEGE

The ‘Hindoo College’, established in 1817, was transformed into the ‘Presidency College of Bengal’ in 1855. The college was the earliest institution of higher learning in the modern sense in Asia. The Presidency College introduced western education in the historical sense of the term and was originally a non-government college meant for the sons of the Hindu community alone. But the Centenary Volume (1955) notes: “The most striking feature of the Hindu College was its determined effort to impart secular education.” Some notable legendary alumni of the institution are Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Subhash Chandra Bose and India’s first president Dr. Rajendra Prasad.

ST. STEPHEN’S COLLEGE

Founded on 1 February 1881, St. Stephen’s is the oldest college in Delhi. It was first affiliated to Calcutta University, and later to Punjab University. Finally with the establishment of Delhi University in 1922, it became one of its three original constituent colleges. The college began with just five students and three teachers in a small house in Katra Khushal Rai, near Kinari Bazar in Chandni Chowk.

ST. XAVIER’S COLLEGE

St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai, India, is a liberal arts college in India. The college is named after Francis Xavier, the 16th-century Spanish Jesuit saint. Its campus in South Mumbai is built in the Indo-Gothic style of architecture, and recognized as a heritage structure. The college was founded by German Jesuits in 1869. It began to develop rapidly from 1884 to 1910. The imprisonment of German Jesuit priests during the First World War (1914–1918) led to a dislocation of the administration, which was mitigated by the appointment of other European Jesuits.

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (IIT)

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are autonomous public institutes of higher education, located across India. They are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 which has declared them as institutions of national importance, and lays down their powers, duties, and framework for governance etc. The Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 lists sixteen institutes. Each IIT is an autonomous institution, linked to the others through a common IIT Council, which oversees their administration. The Union HRD Minister is the ex-officio Chairperson of IIT Council.

ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES

Among the temples of modern India which Jawahar Lal Nehru designed, was a centre of excellence in the medical sciences. Nehru’s dream was that such a centre would set the pace for medical education and research in Southeast Asia , and in this he had the wholehearted support of his Health Minister, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur. The health survey and development committee ,chaired by Sir Joseph Bhore, an Indian Civil Servant, had in 1946 already recommended the establishment of a national medical centre which would concentrate on meeting the need for highly qualified manpower to look after the nation’s expanding health care activities.

BIRLA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCE

The Birla Institute of Technology & Science, BITS Pilani is an all-India Institute for higher education. The primary motive of BITS is to “train young men and women able and eager to create and put into action such ideas, methods, techniques and information”. The Institute is a dream come true of its founder late Mr G.D.Birla – an eminent industrialist, a participant in the Indian freedom struggle and a close associate of the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. What started in early 1900s as a small school, blossomed into a set of colleges for higher education, ranging from the Humanities to Engineering until 1964 when all these colleges amalgamated to culminate into a unique Indian University of International standing.

TATA INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES (TISS)

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work; and aimed to create human service professionals to work with and enable people overcome poverty, deprivation and unemployment. Today, the institute keeps this vision alive through its extensive teaching, research, policy support, and field action programmes. TISS has received a consistently high appreciation for academic excellence and is counted amongst the best universities in the country.

NATIONAL LAW SCHOOL OF INDIA

The National Law School of India came into existence through a Notification under the National Law School of India University Act (Karnataka Act 22 of 1986). It signified the culmination of efforts by the Judiciary, the Bar Council of India, the Karnataka Bar Council, the Bangalore University and the Government of Karnataka to reform legal education and to establish a centre of excellence for legal education and research in India. The National Law School stands a step above the best that India has to offer in legal education.

JAWAHARLAL NEHRU UNIVERSITY- JNU

Young at forty two years, as universities go, what has lent strength and energy to Jawaharlal Nehru University is the vision that ideas are a field for adventure, experimentation and unceasing quest and diversity of opinions its chief premise. In the early 1970s, when JNU opened its doors to teachers and students, frontier disciplines and new perspectives on old disciplines were brought to the Indian university system. The excellent teacher-student ratio at 1:10, a mode of instruction which encouraged students to explore their own creativity instead of reproducing received knowledge, and an exclusively internal evaluation were a new experiment on the Indian academic landscape; these have stood the test of time.

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FASHION TECHNOLOGY- NIFT

National Institute of Fashion Technology was set up in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. It has emerged as the premier Institute of Design, Management and Technology, developing professionals for taking up leadership positions in fashion business in the emerging global scenario. NIFT has been granted statutory status under the act of Parliament of India in 2006, empowering the Institute to award degrees and other academic distinctions. NIFT has set academic standards and excelled in thought leadership by providing a pool of creative genius and technically competent professionals.

AMITY UNIVERSITY

Amity University was formed by Ashok Chauhan, the founder of the Ritnand Balved Education Foundation. Amity University was India’s first private university slated to implement reservations based on caste etc. for faculty as well as students, the school was started in 2003 with an enrollment of 120 students. It now has more than 125,000 students from all over the world. Atul Chauhan is President of Ritnand Balved Education Foundation and Chancellor of Amity University. Aseem Chauhan is the Additional President of the Foundation. SIKKIM MANIPAL UNIVERSITY- SMU

Sikkim Manipal University was founded with the basic objective of strengthening the close link of education to skill development and the making the youth of Sikkim educated, skilled and employable, giving them the capacity to harness diverse opportunities both within and outside Sikkim. This will also create more job opportunities for our youth, thus solving the growing unemployment in the State. The Sikkim Manipal University was established in 1995. It is the first government-private initiative in the region. SMU is recognized by the University Grants Commission and approved by the Government of India.

LADY SHRI RAM COLLEGE (LSR)

Lady Shri Ram College for Women, has long been recognized as a premier institution of higher learning for women in India. DELHI UNIVERSITY

The University of Delhi is the premier university of the country and is known for its high  standards in teaching and research and attracts  eminent scholars to  its faculty. It  was  established in  1922 as a unitary, teaching and residential  university by an Act of the then Central Legislative  Assembly.   The President of India is the Visitor,  the Vice  President is  the Chancellor  and  the  Chief Justice  of the Supreme Court of India is the Pro-Chancellor of the University. Ever since its  inception, a strong  commitment to  excellence in  teaching and research has  made the University of Delhi a role-model and path-setter for other universities in the country.

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT (IIM)

The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are a group of 19 public, autonomous institutes of management education and research in India. They primarily offer postgraduate, doctoral and executive education programmes. The establishment of IIMs was initiated by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, based on the recommendation of the Planning Commission. IIMs are registered as societies under the Indian Societies Registration Act. Each IIM is autonomous and exercises independent control over its day-to-day operations. However, the administration of all IIMs and the overall strategy of IIMs is overseen by the IIM council. The IIM Council is headed by India’s Minister of Human Resource Development and consists of the chairpersons and directors of all IIMs and senior officials from the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
