Ravichandran Ashwin bowls 7-ball over, gets hit for 4 off 7th ball

KXIP captain Ravichandran Ashwin bowled a seven-ball over to start off MI innings in the IPL 2019 today. Ashwin conceded three runs off his first six deliveries and was hit for four off the seventh delivery by Quinton de Kock. It was later clarified that though Rohit Sharma played the first ball, it was considered dead as he wasn’t ready.

Samson India’s best keeper-batsman, should be in WC squad: Gambhir

After Rajasthan Royals’ Sanju Samson became the first batsman to slam a hundred in the IPL 2019 on Friday, former India opener Gautam Gambhir praised the 24-year-old old on Twitter. “I am glad to note that Sanju Samson is currently the best wicketkeeper-batsman in India. For me, he should be batting number 4 in the World Cup,” he wrote.

Amit Shah, wife’s assets grow 3 times in 7 years to ₹38.81 crore

BJP President Amit Shah and his wife’s assets stood at ₹38.81 crore in 2017-18, up from ₹11.79 crore in 2012, as per his nomination papers for Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat. While Shah had ₹20,633 cash in hand, his wife possessed ₹72,578 cash at the time of filing. Affidavit also stated Shah didn’t pursue his B.Com degree beyond the second year.

Woman brain dead for three months gives birth to baby boy

Ex-Portuguese canoeist Catarina Sequeira, who was declared brain dead on December 26 after a severe asthma fit when she was 19 weeks pregnant, gave birth to a baby boy on Thursday. For around 56 days, a ventilator was attached to her to enable her baby to survive in her womb. The funeral of the 26-year-old Catarina was held on Friday.

Fossil site in US shows ‘first victims’ of dinosaur-killing meteor

Palaeontologists have discovered a fossil site in US’ North Dakota, saying it contains lifeforms killed and buried within an hour of the dinosaur-killing meteor impact 66 million years ago. The fossil shows insects, fish, mammals, a dinosaur and plants that were present at the site, mixed with rock created from the impact. The study claimed dinosaurs survived until the impact.

Will pay maintenance to estranged wife with NYAY: Struggling TV actor

Madhya Pradesh’s 38-year-old struggling television actor Anand Sharma told a local family court he will pay maintenance to his estranged wife and daughter with the money he gets from Congress party’s proposed Nyuntam Aay Yojana. The court has ordered him to pay ₹4,500 monthly maintenance. Congress has promised ₹72,000 per year to 20% of India’s poorest, if voted to power.

Air Marshal NS Dhillon appointed as Strategic Forces Command Chief

Fighter pilot Air Marshal NS Dhillon was appointed as the new Strategic Forces Command Chief on Saturday. The Strategic Forces Command looks after the strategic nuclear arsenal of the country. A graduate from National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College, Dhillon was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force in December 1981.

Two 7-yr-old kids made to stand in sun for 2 hrs for not paying fees

Two seven-year-old primary school students in Kerala were reportedly made to stand in the sun for about two hours for not paying fees, following which the state child rights commission registered a case against the school management. One of the children, who collapsed, was later hospitalised. The school management had also refused permission to them to appear for examination.

Flat rented only to Parsi police officers for ₹64 empty since 2008

A flat in South Mumbai’s Dhunjibhoy Building, which is reserved only for Parsi police officers for ₹64/month, is vacant since 2008. There are only two Parsi officers in the Mumbai police department, with one having his own house while the other has been posted out of Mumbai on deputation. The Parsi community had reserved the apartment 60 years ago.

Nirav Modi offered to wear electronic tag, deposit £1 mn for bail

Nirav Modi was denied bail again on Friday despite him offering to wear an electronic tag and deposit £1 million as security. The court was told that the ankle tag would enable the police to track his location. The judge said she was denying bail because of the risk he would fail to surrender and his “lack of community ties”.

Jet to pay only December salaries to pilots, engineers for now

Jet Airways will pay December salaries to pilots and aircraft maintenance engineers but for now cannot pay more recent overdue wages, CEO Vinay Dube told employees. Jet pilots union has called a meeting in Mumbai on Sunday to decide on whether to go ahead with their planned April 1 strike. The airline was bailed out by state-run banks on Monday.

Alok Sama leaving active role in SoftBank Group Int’l: Report

Alok Sama, President and Chief Financial Officer of SoftBank Group International is leaving active role in the Japanese conglomerate and will serve as a senior adviser, as per a Financial Times report. A Wharton MBA, Sama helped founder Masayoshi Son in the $32-billion acquisition of chip designer Arm Holdings. Sama previously served as Morgan Stanley’s Managing Director for 16 years.

India lose to South Korea in Azlan Shah final after shootout

The Indian hockey team lost to South Korea in the final of the Azlan Shah Cup after losing 2-4 in the penalty shootout. The match went into the penalty shootout after it had ended as a 1-1 draw. India has won the trophy four times in the past and had shared the trophy with South Korea in the 2010 edition.

Sindhu, Kashyap crash out of India Open semi-finals

Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Parupalli Kashyap crashed out of the India Open 2019 after losing in their respective semi-finals on Saturday. China’s He Bingjiao registered a comeback win to beat Sindhu 23-21, 21-18 in the semifinal. Meanwhile, second seed Viktor Axelsen beat Kashyap 21-11, 21-17 in their semi-final encounter.

Solskjaer achieves his first win as United’s permanent manager

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer achieved his first win as the permanent manager of Manchester United after the team beat Watford 2-1 in the English Premier League on Saturday. Manchester United occupy the fourth place in the EPL points table. Meanwhile, Huddersfield became the first Premier League team since Derby in 2007-2008 to be relegated in March.

CSK replace Lungi Ngidi with NZ all-rounder Kuggeleijn

Chennai Super Kings have replaced injured South African bowler Lungi Ngidi with New Zealand all-rounder Scott Kuggeleijn, who will be joining the squad next week. Meanwhile, CSK’s David Willey has also pulled out of the tournament. CSK coach Stephen Fleming said that Willey, who has withdrawn due to personal reasons, can’t be replaced and that CSK is supporting him.

Former F1 driver Michael Schumacher’s son Mick Schumacher made his Formula 2 debut for the Prema Racing team, finishing eighth in Saturday’s race in Bahrain after qualifying in 10th place. The 20-year-old German driver finished about 35 seconds behind winner Nicholas Latifi of Canada. Mick Schumacher is part of Ferrari’s driver academy.

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg said the social media platform is exploring restrictions on who can go live, based on factors such as prior Community Standard violations. This came after a terrorist live-streamed the attacks on one of the two New Zealand mosques that claimed 50 lives. “We have heard feedback that we must do more, and we agree,” she added.

Go-Jek may set up joint venture with Faasos parent: Report

Indonesian ride-hailing giant Go-Jek is reportedly in talks to set up a joint venture with Fassos and Behrouz Biryani’s parent firm Rebel Foods. The venture may see an $8-10 million initial investment from Go-Jek and Rebel to expand cloud-kitchen expertise to Southeast Asian markets, the report claimed. Go-Jek is also leading a $30-million round in gaming startup MPL, it added.

Thai King strips exiled former PM Shinawatra of royal honours

Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn has revoked royal decorations awarded to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra over his corruption conviction, a document in the royal gazette showed. The document described Shinawatra fleeing Thailand to escape a two-year prison sentence as “highly inappropriate” behaviour. Shinawatra, who lives in self-exile in Dubai, was ousted in a military coup in 2006.

Actress and BJP MP Hema Malini has said that it will be dangerous for the country if Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not re-elected to power. “People will vote for me in Mathura because Modiji is our leader. Boxer, who forcefully kissed female reporter in interview, suspended Boxing chiefs in California have suspended Bulgarian heavyweight boxer Kubrat Pulev’s licence after he forcefully kissed a female reporter during a live interview. The boxer claimed he was friends with the reporter, Jennifer Ravalo, but the latter said she had only met the boxer a day earlier. Pulev was also ordered to appear in front of California State Athletic Commission.
