Warner reveals teammates call him ‘Hum-bull’ after return from ban

Australia opener David Warner, who slammed match-winning 166 runs against Bangladesh on Thursday, revealed that his teammates have given him a new nickname. “They call me Hum-bull (humble) now,” added the 32-year-old, who is playing his first international tournament after serving a one-year ban. Warner was known as “Bull” early in his career before he was nicknamed “Reverend”.

Speaking on India-Pakistan 2019 World Cup toss row, Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez said team’s decision can’t be made on basis of what someone has tweeted. “It was team’s decision. We didn’t bowl well and that’s why we lost,” he added. Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed had opted to bowl first despite Pakistan PM Imran Khan suggesting him to bat first on Twitter.

Reacting to women’s cricket being nominated for Commonwealth Games 2022, England Women captain Heather Knight said it is a “brilliant news”. “Hopefully this will take women’s cricket to a new audience, to other countries who never really saw it as a priority and increase its funding,” she added. “Hopefully, I will still be playing in 2022 too!” she further said.

Arjuna awardee boxer Bhagwan suspended for assaulting hotel manager

Two-time Asian Championships medallist and Arjuna awardee Jai Bhagwan, who is an Inspector with Haryana police, has been suspended from service for allegedly assaulting a hotel manager in Sirsa. According to reports, Bhagwan assaulted the manager after he didn’t allow the boxer to enter the room with a woman. The incident was captured in CCTV camera installed in the hotel.

After Congress President Rahul Gandhi mocked Yoga Day by terming a picture of Army dogs doing yoga as ‘New India’, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh criticised him. “One can only pray to God to give him sense,” he tweeted. “These are proud members of the Indian Army and they contribute to the safety of our nation,” he added.

Yoga Day participants steal mats at event attended by Amit Shah

At an International Yoga Day event, which was also attended by Home Minister Amit Shah and CM Manohar Lal Khattar in Haryana’s Rohtak, participants were seen stealing mats from the venue. A video shows people fighting over mats and snatching them from volunteers, who were trying to stop them. Volunteers can also be seen having heated arguments with the participants.

Under-construction warship in Mumbai catches fire, 1 dead

A major fire broke out at an under-construction warship of Indian Navy at Mazagon Dockyard on Friday evening. A senior city fire brigade official said that one person suspected to be trapped inside died. The blaze erupted on the second deck of INS Visakhapatnam. Eight fire-fighting engines and a quick-response vehicle have been pressed into service to extinguish the blaze.

AI ordered to pay ₹2.15 lakh to passenger over cancelled flight

The Chandigarh consumer forum has directed Air India to pay ₹2.15 lakh to a city-based doctor over a Delhi-Chandigarh cancelled flight. The doctor was forced to catch another flight by paying ₹4,025. The incident happened in September last year. “Mere mentioning that the flights were cancelled due to technical snags cannot be considered sufficient explanation,” the forum said.

Pak tweets yoga asana & tricolour emoji on Yoga Day, deletes it later

On the occasion of International Yoga Day on Friday, the Pakistan government’s official Twitter handle shared a post with the hashtag #YogaDay and as a result, posted a yoga asana and tricolour emoji. The tweet was later deleted and replaced with one that didn’t have the emoji. “Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice,” their tweet read.

India raises concerns over rising oil prices with Saudi Arabia

Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed concerns about rising crude oil prices to his Saudi Arabian counterpart, Khalid Al-Falih. Global oil prices rose sharply on fears of a US military attack on Iran. Pradhan told Falih by telephone that he wanted Saudi to play an active role within OPEC and OPEC+ to keep oil prices at a reasonable level.

New mind-controlled robot arm 1st to work without brain implant

A team of US-based researchers has developed the “first-ever successful” mind-controlled robotic arm that works without a brain implant. The team created a brain-computer interface (BCI), using sensing and machine learning techniques, that could reach signals deep within the brains of participants wearing EEG head caps. The arm has the ability to continuously track and follow a computer cursor.

PM to attend G20 meet; will raise black money, terrorism issues

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend G20 summit in Japan next week and will raise the issues of financial stability, black money and terrorism, among others. “This would be the sixth time that PM would be participating in the summit,” MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said. “He would also hold bilateral meetings and participate in plurilateral meetings,” Kumar added.

1st NASA ‘Astrobee’ robot flies on its own in space for 1st time

NASA has revealed its first cube-shaped ‘Astrobee’ robot, called Bumble, flew under its own power in space for the first time on June 14. Astrobee is a free-flying robot system designed to help astronauts reduce time spent on routine duties. The system comprises two more robots ‘Honey’ and ‘Queen’, software and a docking station used for recharging.

17 of 59 accidents in 2018-19 due to track defects: Railways

Railways Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday told the Parliament that 17 accidents of the total 59 in 2018-19 had taken place due to track defects. Goyal further said that there were 20 accidents in 2015-2016 and 34 in 2016-17 due to track defects. “Safety is…the highest priority…and all possible steps are undertaken…to ensure safe running trains,” he added.

BMW heirs worth $34 billion say their wealth can be a burden

Susanne Klatten and Stefan Quandt, the BMW heirs who are worth a combined $34.5 billion, said that dealing with the responsibility and jealousy from inheriting wealth is a misunderstood burden. ‘Om’ chants at UN General Assembly to mark Yoga Day

The UN officials and diplomats along with many others did various asanas, chanted ‘Om, Shanti’ and meditated. Facebook lifts ban on Led Zeppelin album cover with naked children

Facebook has lifted the ban on the cover of English rock band Led Zeppelin’s album ‘Houses of the Holy’, which featured images of naked children. “We know this a culturally significant image. Therefore, we’re restoring the posts we removed,” Facebook said. The social media platform had said the posted cover was “flagged by other members of the community”.

Foxconn Founder urges Apple to shift plants from China to Taiwan

Apple’s largest iPhone assembler Foxconn’s Founder Terry Gou has asked the technology giant to move part of its production chain out of China. “I’m urging Apple to move to Taiwan,” said the 69-year-old billionaire, who is currently the richest man in Taiwan. Notably, Gou has announced his resignation as the manufacturing giant’s Chairman to contest Taiwan’s 2020 presidential election.
