7 killed, 30 injured in road accident in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur
Seven people were killed and over 30 others were injured when the canter in which they were travelling turned upside down in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur on Sunday. The victims, mostly women, were taken to the District Hospital for treatment, where many of them were either declared brought dead or succumbed to their injuries. The seriously injured were referred to Jaipur.

NASA system hacked, data stolen using Raspberry Pi computer
In 2018, NASA’s network was hacked and approximately 500 megabytes of data from 23 files on their system was stolen, a report by the NASA Office of Inspector General revealed. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory network was accessed by targetting a Raspberry Pi computer that wasn’t authorised to be attached to it. The attack went undetected for nearly a year.
Undersea freshwater aquifer found off US Northeast coast
A team, including Columbia University scientists, has discovered a “gigantic” aquifer of low-salinity water trapped in porous sediments lying below the ocean off the US Northeast coast. The study suggests the aquifer system, spanning at least 350 km of the US Atlantic coast, contains about 2,800 cubic km of groundwater. Measurements of electromagnetic waves were employed to map the water.
Former TN DGP who arrested Indira Gandhi in 1977 dies at 91
Former Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu VR Lakshminarayanan, who arrested late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in a corruption case in 1977, passed away at the age of 91 on Sunday. He is survived by a son and two daughters. Lakshminarayanan had worked under various Prime Ministers including Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Charan Singh and Morarji Desai.
Chhattisgarh policeman killed by Maoists in front of his family
A policeman was killed by Maoists when he went to a weekly market with his family in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Sunday, said police. The assistant constable, Chaitu Kadti, was stabbed with knives by a team of Maoists who fled the scene. Kadti died on the way to the hospital, but the rebels did not harm his family, police added.
Govt recognises ONGC as HPCL promoter, HPCL relents: Reports
Government headhunter Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) reportedly called ONGC Chairman and MD Shashi Shanker to assist in selecting the new Finance Director for HPCL. This comes even as Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) has refused to recognise its majority shareholder ONGC as its promoter. ONGC had in January 2018 bought the government’s entire 51.11% stake in HPCL for ₹36,915 crore.

The government is reportedly looking at demerging National Insurance Company, United India Insurance Company and Oriental Insurance Company into smaller units. Following this, it will consider the strategic sale of a few operations to the private sector, reports said. The government was earlier considering merging the three public sector general insurance firms to create one large entity.

Man tries to open IndiGo plane door mid-air, forces emergency landing

A 17-year-old girl was gangraped by six people including three minors after being locked up in a room in Andhra Pradesh’s Ongole for almost a week. The accused were arrested on Sunday. Bodies of 7 of 8 climbers missing near Nanda Devi recovered

The US reportedly launched a cyberattack on Iranian weapons systems on June 20 as the country’s President Donald Trump pulled out of air strikes on Iran. This comes after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said that it shot down a US military drone over Iranian airspace. The cyberattack disabled computer systems controlling rocket and missile launchers, the Washington Post said.
Microsoft bans Slack, discourages Google Docs internal use: Report
Microsoft reportedly put workplace chat software Slack in the “prohibited” category of its internal list of technologies it doesn’t want staff to use on a daily basis. An internal entry reportedly said multiple Slack versions except Enterprise Grid don’t provide controls to properly protect Microsoft IP. Google Docs is reportedly “discouraged” for use and needs “business justification” to be used.
