26 exotic birds worth ₹28 lakh rescued in Mizoram, 8 arrested
The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) found and rescued 26 exotic birds, reportedly worth ₹28 lakh, in a joint operation in Mizoram on Saturday. Eight Indian nationals were also arrested in the case. According to reports, the exotic birds were smuggled from Myanmar and were being taken to Kerala.
Adi Godrej’s FY19 remuneration 114 times higher than firm’s median pay
Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) Chairman Emeritus Adi Godrej’s total remuneration in 2018-19 stood at ₹6.07 crore, 114.18 times higher than the median pay of the company’s employees. However, his remuneration was down 20% from the previous year. GCPL MD and CEO Vivek Gambhir’s remuneration stood at ₹13.1 crore, 311.26 times more than the median pay of the company’s employees.
112 live bombs recovered, 399 arrested in simultaneous raids in WB
West Bengal police on Saturday conducted simultaneous raids in Birbhum district and recovered 112 pieces of live bombs, six country-made weapons and arrested 399 people. Out of the 399 arrested, 65 persons were arrested in specific cases, 228 persons arrested in preventive sections and 106 persons arrested in pending cases, said Superintendent of Police Shyam Singh.
Woman commits suicide after fight with male friend in Delhi hotel
A 22-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide at a hotel in Delhi’s Paharganj on Sunday after a fight with her male friend who was staying with her. Her friend left the room after the fight and did not answer her calls. When he returned, he found the room’s door locked from inside and his friend hanging from the ceiling fan.
Zomato, hotel fined ₹55,000 for delivering chicken instead of paneer
A Pune-based consumer court imposed a ₹55,000 fine on Zomato and a hotel for delivering butter chicken twice to a lawyer who ordered paneer butter masala to break his fast. The man didn’t realise it was a chicken dish and reportedly ate it. While Zomato argued the restaurant delivered the wrong dish, the court considered Zomato to be equally guilty.
FIRs against Subramanian Swamy for alleging Rahul consumes cocaine
Multiple FIRs have been lodged by Congress workers against BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy for allegedly making false remarks against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi that he consumes cocaine. Deutsche Bank plans to exit global equities business, cut 18,000 jobs
Germany’s Deutsche Bank on Sunday announced it plans to exit the equities sales and trading business and reduce approximately 18,000 full-time equivalent employees to around 74,000 employees by 2022. The move is part of a €7.4 billion overhaul plan to improve the bank’s profitability. The bank expects to report a net loss of €2.8 billion in Q2 of 2019.
29 killed as Delhi-bound bus falls into canal in Agra
At least 29 people were killed and several others injured when a Lucknow-Delhi sleeper coach bus fell into a canal off Yamuna Expressway in Agra on Monday morning. “It fell into the side fall about 15 feet deep,” UP Police tweeted. British Airways faces ₹1,500-crore fine over theft of customer data
British Airways on Monday said the UK Information Commissioner’s Office intends to impose a penalty of £183.4 million (over ₹1,500 crore) for the theft of customer data from the airline’s website last year.
