24-year-old Russian Instagram influencer found dead in suitcase
Russia’s 24-year-old Instagram influencer Ekaterina Karaglanova was found dead with her throat slit inside a suitcase by her parents at her Moscow apartment on Friday after they failed to contact her for days. Karaglanova had over 85,000 followers and recently graduated as a doctor. Police said CCTV footage showed her ex-boyfriend visited her property in the days around her disappearance.

A prisoner named Gul Mohammed was released on Tuesday instead of a man with the same name who was granted bail in Bihar. Advocate of the man who was granted bail said, “It was a clerical error, it was not intentional. We can call it slip of pen.” A new release order was issued and the man intended was released.

Sri Lanka head coach Chandika Hathurusingha has been given until the start of Sri Lanka’s home Test series against New Zealand to quit and make way for a new coach, Sri Lanka sports minister Harin Fernando said. “If Hathurusingha does not leave, we may have to consider legal action or offer him a different job at the board,” he added.

The lone Indian umpire in ICC’s Elite Panel of Umpires, Sundaram Ravi, has been excluded from the panel for the 2019/20 season. Ravi was promoted to the Elite Panel in 2015, becoming the first Indian umpire in the top panel since S Venkataraghavan in 2004. Further, Javagal Srinath is the only Indian in ICC’s Elite Panel of Match Referees.
Centre hands over Unnao rape survivor’s road accident probe to CBI
The Centre on Tuesday handed over the probe into the road accident in which the Unnao rape survivor was critically injured to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Meanwhile, the survivor is on the ventilator and doctors said her blood pressure is not stable. The case was handed over to the CBI to probe “abetment and conspiracies” in the accident.

Educationist Sonam Wangchuk has said it should be mandatory for public representatives like MLAs and MPs to send their children to government schools. “India’s a country where 5-10% children study in schools which are probably far ahead of US schools [but] around 90% schools are worse than those in Sub-Saharan Africa,” said Wangchuk.
CCD Founder’s signature on annual reports different from letter: I-T
The Income Tax Department said the signature on the letter purportedly written by missing Coffee Day Founder VG Siddhartha doesn’t match with his signature on the company’s annual reports. It added that Siddhartha admitted to unaccounted income of ₹362 crore and ₹118.02 crore for self and Coffee Day respectively. Siddhartha’s tax liability runs into hundreds of crores, the department said.
Comcast, partners make offer for stake in Zee Entertainment: Reports
A consortium including US cable giant Comcast, James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems and Blackstone has reportedly made an offer for a stake in Zee Entertainment. The group reportedly plans to acquire 51% stake, which has a market value of about ₹19,000 crore. Zee, controlled by Subhash Chandra, is seeking a strategic investor to help pay off debts of its parent group.

OPDs to remain closed on July 31 as doctors protest NMC Bill
OPDs in government hospitals across the country will remain closed on July 31 after the Indian Medical Association (IMA) called for a nation-wide 24-hour withdrawal of non-essential services against the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill. JeM commander involved in Anantnag attack killed in encounter
Two Jaish-e-Mohammad militants, including a commander involved in the Anantnag attack on CRPF personnel, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, police said. Five CRPF jawans were martyred and an SHO was injured, who later succumbed to his injuries in the attack in June. Police have termed the militant’s killing a big achievement.

Neymar had earlier denied the allegations that he raped a Brazilian woman in a Paris hotel in May. The 27-year-old footballer had also shared a video of his chat with the woman who had accused him of rape.
Uber fires 400 employees from its marketing team globally
Ride-hailing giant Uber has fired 400 employees from its 1,200-member marketing team globally. Many of Uber’s teams are “too big, which creates overlapping work, makes for unclear decision owners and can lead to mediocre results,” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in an internal email to employees. Notably, Uber had reported a year-over-year 116% hike in Q1 loss, at $1 billion.
