Three people have been arrested after a three-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped and beheaded after being kidnapped from a railway station in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand last week. Police have recovered her torso and pressed sniffer dogs into service to locate her head. One of the accused, Rinku, is the son of a policeman and was convicted previously for kidnapping children.

6 dead due to heavy rain in Vadodara; airport, schools shut

At least six people reportedly died in rain-related incidents in Vadodara till late Wednesday night. The airport was closed and several trains were cancelled or rescheduled, while schools and colleges were also shut. Vadodara received 442 mm of rain in 12 hours between 8 am and 8 pm on Wednesday, the highest in Gujarat in the period, said the state.

DGCA suspends 2 SpiceJet pilots for 1 year over unsafe landing

Aviation regulator DGCA on Wednesday suspended flying licences of two SpiceJet pilots who were flying an aircraft that overshot the runway at Surat airport on June 30. DGCA found the pilots had continued an unstabilised approach and the plane had landed with high speed, leading to runway excursion. It had landed with 600 metres of runway left, an official said.

Online car marketplace CarDekho has received about $20 million as part of its ongoing $110 million Series C funding round, regulatory filings revealed. The round was led by SC GG India Mobility with participation from Hillhouse and Kreatif Media Karya. Founded in 2008 by IIT graduates Amit Jain and Anurag Jain, CarDekho helps users buy new and used cars.

3 detained for abducting and killing relative in Jodhpur

A man was allegedly abducted and killed by his relatives, including two maternal-uncles, in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur, police said. The police detained the three accused based on a complaint filed by the man’s kin. The victim was rushed to a hospital after he was found in a “grievously injured state” but was declared brought dead by doctors, a police officer said.

Agra jail launches radio station for rehabilitation of inmates

An internal radio station was launched at the Agra jail in Uttar Pradesh for rehabilitation and reformation of its inmates, officials said. The radio station will be operated by prisoners and will be a source of entertainment for them, Superintendent of Police said. He added, “Programmes like special song request, health programmes and spiritual songs will be played.”

A Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, identified as Showkat Ahmad Tantary, was arrested by the Budgam Police in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. The police seized incriminating materials including arms and ammunition from his possession. His complicity in other terror crimes is being interrogated, the police said.

Triple Talaq bill becomes a law after President’s approval

President Ram Nath Kovind has given assent to the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 passed by the Parliament, making it a law. The law criminalises instant triple talaq and seeks up to three years in jail for guilty. It was passed in the Rajya Sabha, with 99 MPs voting in its favour and 84 against it.

Osama bin Laden’s son Hamza with $1-million bounty killed: Reports The son of al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden, Hamza, has died according to US media reports quoting intelligence officials. The reports also claimed that Hamza, who’s thought to be 30 years old, had been killed sometime over the past two years in an operation that involved US. The country had announced a $1-million bounty on his head in February 2019.
