Andhra Pradesh to reapproach World Bank, AIIB for funds: Reports

Andhra Pradesh government will reportedly reopen talks with the World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) by next week for funding the state’s Amaravati capital city project. Last month, World Bank and AIIB had withdrawn support worth $500 million for building Amaravati. CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has already identified a team for preparing a project report, reports said.

CRED to raise funds in round valuing it at up to $500 mn: Report

FreeCharge Co-founder Kunal Shah’s second venture CRED is reportedly close to finalising a $125 million fundraise at a post-money valuation of between $450 and $500 million. Existing investors Sequoia Capital, Ribbit Capital and Apoletto Asia have reportedly invested in the first tranche of $65 million. China’s Hillhouse Capital and US-based Tiger Global Management are expected to join the round.

Hate has no place in US: Trump after 29 killed in mass shootings

US President Donald Trump on Sunday said that “hate has no place in our country” after two mass shootings killed 29 people in Texas and Ohio, adding that “we have to get it stopped”. Trump said he had spoken to the FBI, Attorney General William Barr, and members of Congress about what can be done to prevent such violence.

19 killed, 30 injured in car explosion in Egypt’s Cairo

Nineteen people have died and 30 have been injured in an explosion outside Egypt’s National Cancer Institute in central Cairo, Egypt’s health ministry said on Monday. A car driving against traffic collided with three other cars, causing the explosion, Egypt’s interior ministry said in a statement. Health authorities evacuated patients from the institute to other hospitals in the city.

Over 1,000 cases pending in courts for 50 years: CJI Ranjan Gogoi

CJI Ranjan Gogoi today said over 1,000 cases are pending in courts across India for 50 years, while over two lakh cases are pending for 25 years. He added he has requested chief justices of several high courts to “go after” these cases. He said summons for around 20 lakh out of 90 lakh civil cases haven’t been served yet.

Mehbooba gets Anti-Corruption Bureau notice, says effort to bully her

The Anti-Corruption Bureau of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a notice to former CM Mehbooba Mufti asking her whether she had supported the recommendations made by some ministers in the PDP-BJP government for appointments in J&K Bank. Mufti said she wasn’t surprised by the notice and called it an effort “to browbeat mainstream leaders”, adding that such tactics won’t work.

Section 144 imposed in Srinagar, all schools, colleges to remain closed

Restrictions were imposed in Srinagar district under Section 144 with effect from midnight, which will remain in force till further orders. As per the order, there would be no movement of public and all educational institutions will remain closed. On Sunday evening, mobile internet services were also snapped in most parts of Kashmir.

After Srinagar, Section 144 to be imposed in Jammu district from 6 am

Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) will be imposed in Jammu district from 6 am on Monday in view of the prevailing situation in the state, as per the orders by District Magistrate Sushma Chauhan. This comes after Section 144 was imposed across Srinagar district from 12 am. Further, University of Jammu will remain closed on Monday.

Rupee sees biggest one-day fall in 8 months against US dollar

The Indian rupee on Monday fell to 70.6 against the US dollar in its biggest single-day fall since December 2018. At its previous close, the rupee was at 69.6 a dollar. The fall was driven by an increase in foreign fund outflows and turmoil in global currency markets.

Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina said that Articles 370 and 35A have created “walls of hatred” and they’re “anti-India Articles”. The Shiv Sena on Monday said that PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti should be declared a terrorist and sent to jail, otherwise her “plan to create violence in Kashmir will get successful”. It added that Mufti has given “warning” over Article 35A and asked Kashmiri people to stay ready for “sacrifice”. It said that the Home Minister shouldn’t “tolerate” this.

HSBC CEO John Flint quits 18 months after taking up the role

British banking firm HSBC on Monday announced the departure of John Flint as the Chief Executive Officer “by mutual agreement with the board”, just 18 months after he took up the role. Flint’s exit was a result of differences of opinion with Chairman Mark Tucker, Reuters reported. Flint will immediately cease his day-to-day responsibilities at HSBC.

No plans to stop selling guns at stores: Walmart after US shootings

American retail giant Walmart on Sunday said the company has no plans to stop selling guns and ammunition at its stores. The statement came hours after a gunman armed with a rifle killed at least 20 people at a Walmart store in Texas, US. Earlier last week, a disgruntled employee shot dead two co-workers at a Walmart store in Mississippi.
