Indian women’s football team was on Monday handed a special third-place trophy for their performance at COTIF Cup, Spain by the tournament’s President Eliseu Gómez Tormos. India played four matches in the COTIF Cup, out of which they won and lost two matches each. India, who achieved their best finish in the tournament also won the Fair Play Award.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka returned to the world number one spot in women’s WTA rankings replacing Ashleigh Barty despite a quarterfinal exit from Rogers Cup. Bianca Andreescu, who became the first Canadian woman to win Rogers Cup in 50 years, became world number 14 from world number 27. Andreescu broke into top 20 for the first time.

Delhi airport operations affected for 70 mins after hoax bomb threat

The operations at Terminal-2 of Delhi international airport were suspended for 70 minutes after the police received a hoax bomb threat at 8:49 pm on Monday. The departure area was immediately evacuated and all passengers were moved to Gate No. 4, while arriving passengers were on hold inside aircraft. Normal operations were restored at 10 pm after detailed search operations.

A Korean owner of a guesthouse in Tamil Nadu’s Thandalam has been booked after a video showing him physically and verbally assaulting employees from Northeast went viral. “He beat us every day…He used to drink during dinner daily and then beat us because of the bills. He never used to listen to us,” one of the workers said.

Madhya Pradesh coal plant fined over fly-ash

Essar Power MP Ltd (EPMPL) in Singrauli, MP has been fined with ₹50 lakh for fly-ash leakage from company’s Mahan Power Plant which allegedly led to the damage of 198 acres of crops, as per officials. “A three-member committee…is looking into the reasons behind the incident…I have written to Essar to immediately deposit ₹50 lakh,” said the district collector.

Chandigarh mall evacuated after bomb alert, turns out to be hoax

Chandigarh Police on Monday evacuated the city’s Elante Mall following a call about the information of a bomb being placed there. Search operations were conducted for four hours by bomb disposal team, Crime Branch and local police units, but the call turned out to be a hoax. A case is being registered and the caller will be arrested, police said.

Bandh in Punjab over Guru Ravidas temple demolition in Delhi

Members of the Ravidas community are staging a bandh in parts of Punjab to protest against the demolishing of the Guru Ravidas temple in Delhi’s Tughlakabad. The community called it a peaceful bandh, adding that ambulances, marriage vehicles, children and foreigners will not be stopped. The bus had jumped the red light and crossed on to the wrong lane before hitting Ram Kumar Yadav, who was crossing the road while the signal for pedestrians was green.

IndiGo flight with Gadkari onboard aborted before take-off due to snag

The pilot of a Nagpur to Delhi IndiGo flight, which had Union Minister Nitin Gadkari among the passengers onboard, aborted take-off after detecting an error. The aircraft was brought back to the taxiway from the runway and the passengers of the plane were deboarded. More details on the incident are awaited.
