Upcoming iPhones to not have ‘iPhone’ written on the back: Report

A report by Slashleaks claims that Apple will be removing the ‘iPhone’ name from the back of its upcoming smartphones and will just feature the Apple logo on the devices. The report cited an employee at Foxconn, the company that assembles Apple’s iPhones. The report also added that the new iPhones will be similar to 2018’s lineup with the notch.

Ex-cricketer Chandrasekhar passes away at 57; police suspect suicide

Former India batsman VB Chandrasekhar passed away at the age of 57 in Chennai on Thursday. Earlier, reports claimed that Chandrasekhar suffered a cardiac arrest, however, later police said that he committed suicide. Chandrasekhar, who is survived by his wife and two daughters, represented India in seven ODIs and played 81 first-class matches.

Trainer arrested for assaulting minor during exercise

A 27-year-old freelance fitness trainer was arrested in POCSO case for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl, police said. “While she was walking…he started discussing various exercise forms…then took her to a lawn,” said a police officer. “When he touched her private parts, she left the spot,” the officer added. The victim registered a case of molestation the same day.

Gujarat fintech startup Lendingkart raises ₹21 crore

Gujarat-based fintech startup Lendingkart has raised about ₹21 crore in equity funding from Sistema Asia Fund (SAF). This comes days after the platform had announced that it has raised about ₹212 crore in an equity round led by existing investors including Fullerton, Bertelsmann India Investments and India Quotient. Lendingkart was founded in 2014 by Harshvardhan Lunia and Mukul Sachan.

Stating that inter-Korean talks are over, North Korea said the loss of dialogue momentum was entirely the responsibility of South Korea. North Korea also launched at least two missiles into the sea on Friday.

US President Donald Trump has privately discussed with aides and advisors the idea of the US purchasing the island of Greenland from Denmark as a way to expand the country’s territory, according to a report. Trump will visit Denmark early in September. In 1946, the then US President Harry Truman had offered to buy Greenland for $100 million.

Hong Kong’s richest man, 91-year-old Li Ka-shing, urged a halt to the anti-government protests “in the name of love” and asked the public to “love China, love Hong Kong, love yourself”. He added that there has been no loss of life despite efforts by terrorist organisations and radical groups. Subrahmanyam further said the government’s focus is on the earliest return to normalcy.

Zomato asks Gold restaurants to serve 45-day notice before exit

Gurugram-based restaurant aggregator Zomato has asked its partner restaurants under its ‘Gold’ program to serve the 45-day notice. This comes after about 300 restaurants under the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) on Thursday decided to delist from several reservation and food platforms over deep discounts. Blind father of man allegedly lynched last month commits suicide

Rati Ram Jatav, the father of a 28-year-old man who was allegedly lynched in Rajasthan’s Alwar district last month, committed suicide by consuming pesticide, his family said. They said Jatav, who was blind, was depressed due to police inaction in the case. His son was allegedly assaulted by locals after he accidentally hit an elderly woman with his motorcycle.

General Electric accused of $38 bn fraud that’s ‘bigger than Enron’ Harry Markopolos, known for his warnings on Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi Scheme, accused General Electric of hiding $38 billion in potential losses. CEO Larry Culp said Markopolos’ 175-page report titled “General Electric, a Bigger Fraud Than Enron”, contained factual errors and constituted “market manipulation – pure and simple”. The US conglomerate’s shares fell 11% after the report was released.
