US-based startup Cerebras Systems has unveiled the world’s largest single silicon-based processor, the Cerebras Wafer Scale Engine. The chip is the world’s first trillion-transistor processor comprising 1.2 trillion transistors, 400,000 AI-optimised cores and 18 GB of memory. The chip, made especially to enhance the development work of AI, has 56 times more silicon area than the largest GPU.

ABVP installs Savarkar’s statue in Delhi University’s North Campus

250 inmates escape from prison set on fire during Indonesia riots

Over 250 inmates escaped from a prison in Indonesia’s West Papua province after protesters set fire to it during riots, officials said on Tuesday. The protests were triggered by the detention of Papuan students for allegedly disrespecting the Indonesian flag. Only five inmates had since been recaptured, local justice ministry spokesperson Marlien Lande said.

Kolkata hospital blames rats for missing eyes from body

Authorities at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata have ordered a probe after eyes from a body kept in the morgue were allegedly gouged out by rats. The incident came to light when the body of 69-year-old Sambhunath Das was handed over to the family on Monday. Das passed away on August 18 at the hospital.

Over 6,000 farmers affected by rain fury in Goa: Deputy CM

Goa Deputy CM Chandrakant Kavlekar on Tuesday said heavy rains and floods in Goa in the past 15 days have affected over 6,000 farmers. “As per our survey…heavy rains and flooding…caused losses amounting ₹8.92 crore. Total 1,928 hectares of area has been affected,” said Kavlekar. He added that the state government will provide the required compensation to the affected farmers.

Mahindra Finance to acquire up to 58.2% in Sri Lanka’s Ideal Finance

Mahindra and Mahindra Financial Services on Tuesday said they entered into a joint venture with Sri Lanka’s Ideal Finance to acquire up to 58.2% stake for nearly ₹80 crore. Mahindra expects the transaction to be completed by March 2021, following which Ideal will become a subsidiary of the company. Mahindra Finance aims to replicate its business model in Sri Lanka.

UP woman delivers baby in hospital corridor after staff turns her away

A state-run hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad allegedly turned away a pregnant woman, forcing her to deliver the baby in the corridor in full public view on Sunday. The staff reportedly said that there were no beds available. A video of the incident shows the woman lying on the floor with blood all around her as people walk past her.
