Iran rejects US claim it was behind attacks on Saudi oil facilities

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi on Sunday dismissed US claim that Iran was behind drone attacks which hit two oil facilities in Saudi Arabia as “pointless”. “Such useless accusations…are meaningless and not comprehensible,” he added. Blaming Iran, US State Secretary Mike Pompeo had said, “Iran has now launched an unprecedented attack on the world’s energy supply.”

Indian Army Eastern Command condoles 9-year-old dog Dutch’s death

Army Eastern Command on Saturday condoled the death of ‘Dutch’, a 9-year-old dog in Kolkata. All the officials paid last respects to the dog, who died on September 11, by garlanding him. Dutch was instrumental in identifying Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in various operations. Eastern Command Indian Army tweeted, “Army Eastern Command condoles the death of ‘Dutch’, a 9 yr old ED dog who died on 11 Sept. He was a decorated dog of Eastern Command who was instrumental in identifying IEDs in various CI/CT Operations. A real hero in service to the nation.”

Kashmiri Pandits hold rally in Aus to back Article 370 revocation

The Kashmiri Pandit community in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday held a rally in support of the government’s move to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Joined by other members of the Indian-Australian community, the rally was held from Victorian State Parliament to Federation Square. The Centre revoked Article 370 on August 5.

World record for lowest average opening stand in 5-Test series broken

The world record for lowest average opening partnership in a Test series of five or more matches has been broken after 113 years in the 2019 Ashes. The lowest average first wicket partnership in the 2019 Ashes was 12.55. The previous record was set in 1906 when the average was 14.16 in the five-Test series between South Africa and England.

Newborn girl ‘sold’ for ₹10,000 in UP; police investigating case

The Ghaziabad Police is investigating a case lodged against a couple from Biharipura for allegedly selling their newborn girl child to another couple for ₹10,000. The complainant in the case, Akanksha Pandey, came to know about the alleged incident from her domestic help, officials said. The couple, however, claimed that they had given their baby up for adoption.

Govt rejects Facebook’s alternative to WhatsApp traceability

The government has rejected Facebook Global Affairs VP Nick Clegg’s proposed mechanism for WhatsApp to address cases flagged by law enforcement agencies. WhatsApp has so far refused India’s demand for ‘absolute’ traceability of ‘fake’ WhatsApp messages to their originators. Clegg had instead suggested use of ‘meta-data’, machine intelligence and harnessing WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook linkage.

Saudi Arabia’s return to its full oil supply capacity after Saturday’s attacks on Aramco oil plants could take “weeks not days”, Reuters said on Sunday quoting a source. Drone attacks on two oil facilities owned by Saudi Arabia’s state-owned oil giant Saudi Aramco knocked down more than half the kingdom’s production. Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi group claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Brazil hospital fire that killed 11 caused by explosion of generator Police officials have said that a blaze that killed 11 people in a hospital in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro was caused by explosion of a generator in the building’s basement. The preliminary conclusion was reached Saturday despite difficulties accessing the basement of the hospital because of accumulated water and poor visibility. Police officials are still investigating why the generator exploded.
