Indian Army helicopter crashes in Bhutan, both pilots lose their lives
An Indian Army Cheetah helicopter crashed into a hill in Bhutan on Friday, with both pilots losing their lives. The Indian Army pilot who was martyred in the crash was of Lieutenant Colonel rank, while the other was Bhutanese Army pilot training with the Indian Army. The helicopter was approaching Yonphula to land from Arunachal’s Khirmu when the accident happened.

CBI court grants bail to Kalyan Singh in Babri Masjid demolition case
A special CBI court today granted bail to ex-Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP leader Kalyan Singh in connection with a criminal case related to the demolition of Babri Masjid. Kalyan had completed his term as Rajasthan Governor earlier this month. The post had accorded him immunity from prosecution in any criminal case during his tenure as a constitutional dignitary.

Maoists set ablaze vehicles engaged in road construction in Bihar
A JCB machine and a dumper truck engaged in the construction of a road in Bihar’s Gaya were torched down by Maoists on Thursday evening. “Around 7-8 armed Naxalites came and pushed me down from the JCB vehicle. After that they torched it,” its driver said. Gaya SSP Rajeev Mishra stated, “Combing operations have begun to track down the culprits.”

Over 300 people, mostly children, found in chains in Nigeria
Nigerian police freed more than 300 people, mostly children, being held in chains in a building in the northern city of Kaduna, a police spokesman said on Friday, adding that many of the children had metal chains around their ankles. The spokesman further said that the building housed an Islamic school and seven people have been arrested.

Following the release of British-flagged oil tanker Stena Impero that was seized by Iran, British foreign minister Dominic Raab said the country will cooperate with its overseas partners to protect shipping. The tanker left Iran’s Bandar Abbas port and is heading for Dubai so the crew can be repatriated, the vessel’s owner said. The ship was detained in July.
Saudi to give tourist visas, abolishes abaya rule for female tourists
Saudi Arabia will offer tourist visas for the first time, launching a new visa regime for 49 countries. Female tourists will not be required to wear the body-covering abaya robe but will be required to wear “modest clothing”. Saudi visas are currently restricted to expat workers, their dependents and Muslim pilgrims travelling to holy sites in Mecca and Medina.
Staff transportation startup WhistleDrive raises ₹72 crore
Hyderabad-based employee transportation startup WhistleDrive has raised ₹72 crore in its Series B round of funding from US-based investment firm Colosseum Group. Founded in 2016 by Rakesh Munnanooru, the startup provides technology-enabled fleet of cabs and bus shuttles to corporates for employee transportation. In April 2018, the Colosseum Group had invested ₹5 crore in WhistleDrive.

Delhi Police has filed an FIR against Lakshmi Vilas Bank’s board directors, on a complaint by Religare Finvest (RFL). The FIR alleged the directors misappropriated ₹790 crore that RFL kept with the bank as a fixed deposit. It was filed under “offences of cheating, criminal breach of trust by banker, criminal misappropriation and criminal conspiracy,” under the Indian Penal Code.

Salman Khan skips Jodhpur court hearing in blackbuck poaching case
Salman Khan on Friday failed to appear before a Jodhpur court after he was summoned in a case related to alleged poaching of two blackbucks in 1998. Abhinav Kumar, face of Trivago ads, joins Paytm as VP of marketing Abhinav Kumar, the face of Trivago’s advertisements in India, has joined Paytm as Vice President of Product Marketing. Kumar was serving as the Country Development Head (India) for the travel portal and reportedly later joined PaisaDukan as Digital Marketing and Branding Advisor.
