SC rejects govt objections on using ‘stolen papers’ for Rafale review
The Supreme Court has dismissed the Centre’s preliminary objections on using the ‘leaked’ classified documents for seeking review of its December 14 judgment, which refused ordering probe in the Rafale deal. The court has allowed admissibility of three documents as evidence. The Centre had earlier claimed that the documents were photocopied by petitioners without approval, which amounted to theft.
Salman gets notice for damaging antique statue during Dabangg 3 shoot
Archaeological Survey of India has issued a notice to Salman Khan, ordering him and his team to remove two set pieces constructed inside Jal Mahal, Madhya Pradesh for ‘Dabangg 3’. They have been accused of damaging an antique figurine at a fort nearby Narmada river. The ASI had asked to do the needful on Saturday but no action was taken.

After Amitabh Bachchan complained that the industry and team of his film ‘Badla’ neglected its success, Shah Rukh Khan, who produced the film, responded by saying the team is waiting for Bachchan to throw a party. IAF didn’t fly notes from abroad before or after note ban: Defence Min
The Defence Ministry on Tuesday categorically refuted that any Indian Air Force aircraft was tasked to fly abroad for carrying currency prior to, during or after demonetisation as alleged in a video. The statement came after Congress showed a video alleging that ₹3 lakh crore were printed abroad and brought in an IAF plane to Hindon Air Base after demonetisation.
Ford to form new company with Mahindra for India business: Report
Ford is reportedly nearing a deal with Mahindra & Mahindra to form a new joint-venture company in India in which the US carmaker will hold a 49% stake. Ford’s India unit will transfer most of its current automotive business to the newly created entity, reports said. Currently, Ford manufactures and sells its cars in India through its wholly-owned subsidiary.
Bishop Franco Mulakkal charged with raping a nun 9 times in 2 yrs
Kerala Police on Tuesday charged Bishop Franco Mulakkal with raping a nun nine times over a two-year period starting 2014. The charge sheet includes statements from 83 witnesses, including a cardinal, three bishops, 11 priests and 25 nuns. Mulakkal, who was arrested in September 2018 and granted bail in October 2018, faces a maximum punishment of life imprisonment.

Germany on Tuesday charged two Indian citizens for spying on the Sikh opposition and Kashmiri separatists in the country. India’s 50-year-old Manmohan S is accused of providing information to India’s foreign intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing, from January 2015. His 51-year-old wife Kanwal Jit K allegedly also began cooperating with the spy agency starting in July 2017.
Zimbabwe man who faked waking up from dead in viral video dies
A Zimbabwean man, Elliot Moyo, who faked religious resurrection in a viral video in February has died, Zimbabwean media reported. Moyo reportedly died last week following persistent stomach swelling. The viral video in February had shown Moyo lying in coffin, when South African prophet Alph Lukau had ‘miraculously’ brought him back to life in front of a group of people.

Addressing a poll rally, BJP President Amit Shah has said that Jammu and Kashmir would continue to be an “inseparable” part of India like any other state in the country. UK startup showcases ₹32,000 backpack with fingerprint lock
UK-based startup Agazzi Designs has designed a backpack with a fingerprint sensor that can be used to unlock it. The Agazzi Pro backpack also features internal lighting and external lighting. Founded by Nicolò Agazzi and John Lavington, the startup, which is conducting a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, said its backpack’s Pro version will expectedly run for nearly ₹32,000 at retail.
NASA finds plasma rain in new magnetic structure on Sun
NASA scientists found a new magnetic structure, Raining Null-Point Topologies, with coronal rains where giant plasma blobs drip from Sun’s outer atmosphere back to its surface after cooling down, similar to rains on Earth. “But instead of 60-degree water you’re dealing with a million-degree plasma,” scientists said, adding plasma traces the Sun’s magnetic loops like a rollercoaster on tracks.
Electric pulses temporarily reverse memory decline in 42 adults
Boston University scientists temporarily reversed memory decline in 42 people aged 60-76 after stimulating their brains with a harmless form of an electrical pulse. The adults, subjected to 25-minute non-invasive brain stimulations, showed memory responses similar to 42 people aged 20-29 used for comparison. Those who had scored the worst initially showed the largest improvements, scientists said.
UK to modify divorce laws to end ‘blame game’ between couples
The UK will introduce reforms in divorce laws to end the “blame game” to help reduce family conflict. Under current rules, a spouse has to allege adultery, desertion or unreasonable behaviour by the other as grounds for divorce. The proposed changes include creating the option of a joint application for divorce, minimum six-month time-frame to allow for reflection, among others.
IMF cuts India growth forecast from 7.5% to 7.3% for 2019-20
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has cut India’s growth forecast for 2019-20 from 7.5% to 7.3%, citing loss of momentum. It has further projected the country to grow at 7.5% in 2020-21, supported by the continued recovery of investment and robust consumption. This comes after the Asian Development Bank and RBI cut their 2019-20 growth projection for India to 7.2%.
Central banks need to be left alone: Raghuram Rajan
Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan has said governments must “leave central banks alone” for the betterment of economies in the long run. “[Central banks] do unpopular things but that’s good in the longer run because it keeps inflation low…growth more stable than it would otherwise be,” he said. Political interference in central banks may lead to adverse outcomes, Rajan added.

Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada SP Abhishek Pallava on Tuesday said, “BJP MLA Bheema Mandavi was advised by police not to visit the area.” “Mandavi was told adequate security was not present on the route near Kuakonda and that he should not go there,” Special DG (Anti-Naxal Ops) DM Awasthi said. People may face death penalty for pics at Thai beach near runway
Thailand will punish people taking photographs with approaching aircraft at Mai Khao beach with ₹87,000 fine, up to 20 years of jail, or the maximum penalty being the death sentence. This is according to Thailand’s Air Navigation Act provisions. The beach shares a wall with Phuket International Airport and is a popular spot for taking pictures with landing aircraft.

IIT Delhi sets up inquiry over false FDA claim by student startup
IIT Delhi has initiated an inquiry against ‘Sanfe’ after the institute-incubated startup falsely claimed their Ayurvedic product, a period pain relief roll-on, was FDA approved, tested by AIIMS. Being issued a showcause notice, one of the two student co-founders said it was a “factual and unintentional mistake” and they misunderstood an approval by Haryana’s Ministry of Ayush as FDA approval.
Proof of life on Mars found on meteorite, claim researchers
Hungary-based researchers have claimed a Martian meteorite contains numerous mineralised ‘biosignatures’ of bacteria that serve as proof of the existence of life on the Red Planet. “Our work is important to a broad audience because it integrates planetary, earth, biological, chemical and environmental sciences,” researchers said. The meteorite was found between 1977 and 1978 in Antarctica.
