The 32-year-old achieved the feat after touching 56-run mark against Sri Lanka in 2019 World Cup on Saturday. Ex-Australia batsman Matthew Hayden and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan are the other two batsmen to score 600 runs in a World Cup.

Tea industry seeks exemption from TDS on cash withdrawal
Indian Tea Association has sought exemption for the tea industry from 2% TDS on cash withdrawals exceeding ₹1 crore a year from a bank account. It said there are inadequate banking facilities in tea-growing areas, due to which workers are largely paid in cash. The government said the move is to discourage the practice of making business payments in cash.
India to sell bonds overseas for 1st time to finance budget deficit
The government on Friday said it will sell sovereign bonds overseas for the first time to finance the fiscal deficit. Ex-RBI Governor C Rangarajan opposed the plan saying India will have to bear the exchange-rate risk if it borrows in foreign currency. The government set the fiscal deficit target at 3.3% of GDP for FY20, from 3.4% set in February.
HIV eliminated from living animal cells with gene editing in a 1st
America’s Temple University and University of Nebraska Medical Center researchers claimed they eliminated HIV DNA from the genomes of living animals, in a first. Researchers combined gene editing system with a recently developed therapeutic strategy called long-acting slow-effective release (LASER) ART. Analyses showed complete elimination of HIV-1 DNA in about one-third of HIV-infected mice.
1,000 killed in 3 months of clashes to seize Libya’s capital: WHO
Nearly 1,000 people have been killed in Libya since General Haftar-led Libyan National Army (LNA) launched an offensive to seize capital Tripoli, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said. The LNA, which holds eastern Libya and much of the country’s south, launched an offensive in April to seize Tripoli from forces loyal to the United Nations-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA).

Addressing a crowd on the US’ Independence Day, President Donald Trump mistakenly said that the Continental Army “took over the airports” during the American Revolutionary War in the 1770s. Trump later said that the teleprompter he used to deliver his speech faced technical problems. Notably, the Wright brothers are credited with flying the world’s first plane in 1903.
N Korea says it deported Australian student Sigley as he was spying
North Korea has said that Australian student Alek Sigley committed “spying acts” through his work with foreign media and was, therefore, expelled from the country. North Korea’s state-run news agency KCNA said he spread propaganda against the reclusive regime in his articles published in foreign news outlets. North Korea deported him after he admitted that he’d been spying, KCNA added.
Wrong man taken off life support by family as police misidentify him
A man was wrongly taken off life support in Chicago, US, after a family mistakenly thought he was their relative and gave its consent, a lawsuit claimed. The man, who was found injured and unconscious underneath a car, was wrongly identified by the police as Alfonso Bennett. The mistake emerged when the real Alfonso Bennett showed up at a barbecue.

Quick Heal 1st India firm to get US patent for anti-ransomware tech
Pune-based cybersecurity firm Quick Heal Technologies has become the first Indian firm to be granted a US patent for an anti-ransomware technology. The artificial intelligence and machine learning-powered technology detects and blocks known and unknown ransomware on a real-time basis, Quick Heal said. Quick Heal Annual Threat Report 2018 stated 23% of 973 million malware attacks were ransomware.

SoftBank planning to invest up to $4 bn in India over next 2 yrs
Japanese multinational conglomerate SoftBank is planning to invest $2-4 billion in India over the next two years, SoftBank Vision Fund head Rajeev Misra said. SoftBank would be bringing over 20 companies in its portfolio into India by setting up joint ventures with local businesses, he added. Notably, SoftBank has invested over $10 billion in India in the past decade.
Gold import duty hike will encourage smuggling: Trade associations
Government’s decision to increase customs duty on gold to 12.5% from 10% is going to encourage a lot of smuggling, All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council’s Chairman Anantha Padmanaban said. “This is a shocking move. We were expecting a reduction in customs duty,” Padmanaban added. Meanwhile, World Gold Council said the hike “will dilute efforts to reduce cash transactions”.
