India record their biggest ever victory vs West Indies in World Cup

India registered their biggest ever victory (by runs) against West Indies in World Cup history by defeating them by 125 runs in 2019 World Cup on Thursday. India’s previous biggest victory against West Indies in World Cup (80 runs) had come in the 2011 edition. West Indies had last defeated India in a World Cup match in the 1992 edition.

Government to launch ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme

The Centre is planning to launch a “One Nation One Ration Card” scheme for beneficiaries to access the Public Distribution System from any PDS shop in India, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has revealed. Five members of a family were found bludgeoned to death in UP’s Hamirpur district on Thursday, Hamirpur SP Hemraj Meena said. “Head of the family, Noorbaksh, had gone to attend a marriage and he informed police after he returned and saw the bodies,” Meena added. Indian-origin Uber driver gets 3-yr jail for ‘kidnapping’ US passenger

An Indian-origin Uber driver, Harbir Parmar, has been sentenced to three-year jail for kidnapping a female passenger and dropping her off on an isolated highway in 2018. The 25-year-old had changed the New York’s passenger’s destination location to Boston when she fell asleep in the backseat. After the woman woke up, he dropped her at an isolated highway in Connecticut.

India wins trade dispute with US over solar panel incentives

The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has ruled that a series of US renewable energy incentives violated international trade rules. A WTO panel upheld India’s claim that seven US states illegally incentivised the use of local content, thereby discriminating against Indian and other imported solar suppliers. The US, however, told the panel that the ruling would have little or no impact.

Air India expected to report loss of ₹7,635 crore in FY19

Cash-strapped Air India is expected to report a loss of ₹7,635 crore during 2018-19, as per provisional figures released by the government. Higher exchange rate, rising oil prices and higher interest burden are cited as factors that impacted the national carrier’s profitability. Air India had total debt of ₹58,352 crore at the end of March 2019.

Flipkart to turn 40% delivery fleet electric by March 2020

Bengaluru-based e-commerce giant Flipkart has said it aims to replace about 40% of its delivery fleet with electric vehicles by March 2020. It revealed it will start with deploying about 160 electric vans across cities by the end of 2019. “The objective is to be 100% EV,” Amitesh Jha, Senior Vice President for Ekart and Marketplace at Flipkart said.

Terrorist killed in encounter in J&K’s Budgam, arms recovered

A terrorist was killed in an encounter with a joint team of Army, CRPF and police personnel in the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning. Arms and ammunition were recovered following the encounter, and a search operation is currently underway. The identity and group affiliation of the terrorist is being ascertained, the police said.

The government on Thursday said it’s committed to the sale of Air India and its five subsidiaries. Continued support from authorities improved the carrier’s financial and operational performance, it added. This comes after Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State for Aviation, earlier told Parliament that present economic environment wasn’t conducive for Air India’s sale in “immediate near future”.

DLF’s promoters have infused the last tranche of ₹2,250 crore into the real estate company. In December 2017, the promoters had infused ₹9,000 crore into the company and promised to invest an additional ₹2,250 crore. The infusion was made after the promoters sold their entire stake in DLF’s rental arm DLF Cyber City Developers for ₹11,900 crore.

CRPF official held in Delhi for allegedly cheating man of ₹90 lakh

Amit Rajpoot, a boxing trainer in CRPF, was arrested in Delhi for allegedly cheating a man of ₹90 lakh on the pretext of giving him cryptocurrency. The complainant said Rajpoot and his aide took the money in a car and asked him to get out after threatening him with a gun. Meanwhile, police recovered ₹26.90 lakh from the accused.

Haryana govt increases guest lecturers’ salary to ₹57,700

Haryana government on Thursday extended the benefit of ‘Equal Pay for Equal Work’ to all the guest lecturers in the state. Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said all the eligible contractual and extension lecturers will get monthly remuneration of ₹57,700. “By extending this benefit…an additional exchequer of about ₹81.27 crore annually will be borne by state government,” added Sharma.
