Badshah’s ‘Paagal’ gets 75 mn views in 24 hrs, breaks world record

The video of rapper Badshah’s new song ‘Paagal’ has become the most watched video on YouTube in 24 hours, after crossing 75 million views in a day. It broke the previous record set by K-Pop group BTS’ video of ‘Boy With Luv’, which received 74.6 million views. Paagal, released on July 10, has received over 82 million views.

Barcelona sign Griezmann from Atlético Madrid for ₹926 crore

Barcelona have signed World Cup-winning French forward Antoine Griezmann from Atlético Madrid for $135 million (₹926 crore) on a five-year deal. The 28-year-old had rejected a move to Barcelona last year but announced in May that he was leaving the Madrid side, where he spent last five seasons since signing from Real Sociedad in 2014.

18-yr-old Kashmir cricketer gets hit on neck by ball in match, dies

Jahangir Ahmad War, an 18-year-old cricketer, died after being hit by a ball on his neck while batting during a match between Baramulla and Budgam under-19 teams. Casio sues Snapdeal over alleged sale of its fake products

Japanese consumer electronics giant Casio has sued Gurugram-based e-commerce startup Snapdeal and sellers on the platform over an alleged sale of its counterfeit products. The Tis Hazari court has restrained Snapdeal and the other accused parties from selling, displaying and advertising goods with the Casio trademark. “Casio has…extended its battle against the fakes on the internet,” Casio said.

Deutsche CEO scolds staff who got ₹1 lakh suits fitted amid lay-offs

Deutsche Bank CEO Christian Sewing said he personally scolded senior executives for having suit fittings at the London headquarters on the same day that thousands of their colleagues were fired. Two tailors carrying suit bags were spotted leaving the bank’s premises. They were fitting suits, costing at least ₹1 lakh, for senior managers who weren’t affected by the job cuts.

Reacting to IndiGo Co-Founder Rakesh Gangwal’s comment that a “paan ki dukaan” would’ve handled things better than IndiGo, fellow Co-Founder Rahul Bhatia said, “Paan Ki Dukaan has apparently done well and continues to do well.” “Gangwal’s allegations about lack of corporate governance are much ado about nothing,” Bhatia added. FIFA doubles ban to 10 games for racist behaviour

Football’s governing body FIFA is set to double the minimum ban for player incidents involving racism to 10 games. Additionally, a football match will be forfeited by the team if their supporters are found to be guilty of racist and other discriminatory behaviours. FIFA also expanded the scope of what is to be considered discriminatory behaviour.

‘Robot umpires’ make debut at Atlantic League All-Star game

A “robot” umpire made its debut officiating at the Atlantic League All-Star Game. The home plate umpire Brian deBrauwere had a phone in his back pocket that was connected to the ball-tracking ‘TrackMan’ system and a headphone, through which deBrauwere heard the system’s calls and signalled accordingly. The umpire can override the system if he disagrees with it.

Man held for posing as PMO official in Delhi

A man, impersonating an official of Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), was arrested by the Delhi Police on Friday. The man visited a showroom in Delhi on Thursday and tried posing as a PMO official to seek favours and threatened the salesmen. The man was taken into custody following a complaint by the manager of the showroom.

5 TN fishermen, 12-yr-old child arrested by Sri Lankan Navy

Five Tamil Nadu fishermen and a 12-year-old child were arrested by Sri Lankan Navy for allegedly straying into its nation’s waters, an official said. The Sri Lankan Navy personnel also registered cases against the fishermen for catching fish in their territory, the official added. On June 27, over 3,000 Tamil Nadu fishermen were chased away by the Sri Lankan Navy.

13-year-old suicide bomber kills 5 at wedding in Afghanistan

At least five people were killed and 40 others were injured after a 13-year-old suicide bomber blew himself up at a wedding in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province on Friday, officials said. The wedding was organised by Malik Toor, commander of a pro-government militia. Toor died in the attack and was likely the target of the bomber.

Rashid named Afghanistan captain across formats, Asghar his deputy

Twenty-year-old Rashid Khan has been appointed as captain of Afghanistan across all formats, while Asghar Afghan, who was sacked as captain ahead of World Cup, has been named as Rashid’s deputy. Ahead of the 2019 World Cup, the Afghanistan Cricket Board had replaced Asghar Afghan as captain with Gulbadin Naib in ODIs, Rashid in T20Is and Rahmat Shah in Tests.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic defeated Bautista Agut 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in two hours and 48 minutes on Friday to reach his sixth Wimbledon final. The 32-year-old will next face eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer or two-time champion Rafael Nadal. The final will be Djokovic’s 25th in Grand Slam history.

Don’t play with fire: China warns US over Taiwan

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has warned the US not to “play with fire” after the US approved a potential arms sale of an estimated $2.2 billion to Taiwan. The deal is for 108 Abrams tanks, 250 Stinger missiles and related equipment. China claims Taiwan as part of its territory, but the island has been autonomously ruled since 1949.

NCLAT to hear Dutch court administrator in Jet insolvency case

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has agreed to hear a petition by a Dutch court-appointed administrator in the Jet Airways insolvency case and asked SBI to respond. It also stayed parts of NCLT order which declared the insolvency proceedings in the Netherlands court null and void. Meanwhile, the administrator agreed not to sell a confiscated Jet Airways plane.

Amazon invests ₹51 crore in India’s Quess Corp at 50% premium

Amazon has invested ₹51 crore in Indian business services provider Quess Corp for a 0.51% stake. Amazon invested the amount at a price of ₹676 per share, about 50% higher than Quess’ Thursday closing price. The investment will be going into the company’s subsidiary Qdigi Services, which provides after-sales services for smartphones and other electronic products and consumer durables.

Brazil seeks WTO panel over India’s sugar subsidies

Brazil on Thursday said it had asked the World Trade Organization (WTO) to establish a panel aimed at resolving its dispute over India’s sugar subsidies. Australia and Guatemala also lodged complaints against India on Thursday, Brazil said. The South American nation argues that Indian subsidies are distorting global sugar markets causing significant losses for Brazilian exporters.

Former England striker Peter Crouch retires from football at 38

Former England football team striker Peter Crouch has retired from football at the age of 38. Crouch had made his debut with QPR before going on to play for nine clubs, including Liverpool, Portsmouth, Tottenham and Stoke. Notably, Crouch holds the record for the most headed goals in the history of the English Premier League.
