Actor Kangana Ranaut has sent a legal notice to Entertainment Journalists’ Guild, demanding that the ban imposed on coverage of matters related to her be lifted within 24 hours. The Guild had boycotted Kangana Ranaut after she accused a journalist of “running a smear campaign” against her. Press Club of India had also backed Guild’s decision to ban her.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh has said that MS Dhoni dropped Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag using his influence. “He reasoned their fielding and fitness for dropping,” he added. “Why did we lose 2015 World Cup semi-final? Because of Dhoni. Why did we lose 2019 World Cup semi-final? Again because of Dhoni,” he further said.

A woman was arrested along with her boyfriend for committing robberies by impersonating a police officer in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore. The boyfriend had given a police uniform of his wife, who is posted as an inspector in Madhya Pradesh Police. Police also seized a fake police identity card from the accused.
Teen accused of making vulgar calls to 40 female Rajasthan professors
Jaipur Police on Friday detained a teenager from Haryana’s Hisar for allegedly making lewd internet-generated calls to around 40 women professors of Rajasthan University. According to the police statement, the accused used the Wi-Fi connection of a university where his father is a professor, to make those lewd calls. He allegedly got the professors’ phone numbers from Rajasthan University’s website.
Top executive of Future Group arrested over ₹14 cr unpaid duties
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has arrested CFO of Future Enterprises, part of Kishore Biyani’s Future Group, for alleged customs duty evasion of ₹14.58 crore on garment imports. Dinesh Maheshwari was held for “misuse” of duty-free imports facility from Bangladesh under a free trade agreement. The imports were allegedly being supplied from other countries but directed through Bangladesh.
Long loses wedding ring, key to New York in WC win celebrations
American footballer Allie Long was robbed of her wedding ring, cash and the key to New York while celebrating her team’s FIFA Women’s World Cup victory. Long and her teammates were attending an event in Los Angeles when her room in the Ritz-Carlton hotel was burgled. New York’s Mayor Bill de Blasio had presented the ceremonial key to Long.
Weightlifter Pardeep wins gold; sets Commonwealth record
Indian weightlifter Pardeep Singh on Saturday set a new record and went on to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Championships in Apia. Pardeep, who competed in the 109 kg category, broke the record in the clean and jerk category by lifting 202 kg. Two-time Commonwealth Games medallist Vikas Thakur won silver medal in the men’s 96 kg event.

Probe launched into leak of emails in which UK envoy criticised Trump
The Metropolitan Police has launched a criminal investigation into the alleged leak of emails in which the UK’s former ambassador to the US, Kim Darroch, had criticised US President Donald Trump’s government. He’d called the Trump government “inept” and “incompetent”. The alleged leak has “damaged UK international relations”, Neil Basu, Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, said.

Apple HQ valued at $4.17 bn; one of world’s costliest buildings
Apple’s doughnut-shaped headquarters in Cupertino, California, nicknamed ‘spaceship’, was valued at about $4.17 billion in a recent assessment, making it one of the world’s most expensive buildings. The 2.8 million-square-foot headquarters was constructed for about $5 billion. Based on the valuation, Apple would be required to pay over $40 million in property taxes per year in California.

New Zealanders hand over weapons after Christchurch mosque attacks
People in New Zealand handed over their weapons in the first round of a buyback scheme on Saturday. The government had banned military-style semi-automatic weapons following the shootings in March at two mosques in Christchurch in which 51 people were killed. Authorities paid over NZ$433,600 (nearly ₹2 crore) in compensation to 169 firearms owners, who handed over 224 weapons.
Foreign investors ask India to reconsider high taxes after Budget
Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have urged Indian government to reconsider its decision to increase taxes on them. Budget documents revealed the new tax will apply not just for individuals but also for FPIs setup as trusts to invest in Indian markets. About 40% of roughly 9,400 FPIs are reportedly registered as trusts while the rest are registered as corporates.
