51-year-old television actor Sooraj Thapar blessed with second child

Television actor Sooraj Thapar and his wife Dipti Dhyani were blessed with their second child on Saturday. The 51-year-old actor has starred in shows like ‘Sasural Genda Phool’, ‘Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka’ and ‘Ekk Nayi Pehchaan’. The couple, who got married in 2012, are already parents to a 4-year-old boy named Vishvm.

Thief breaks into store to steal phones, drops shelf on himself in US

The Westland Police in the US are looking for a thief who broke into a cell phone store last month and ended up dropping an entire display shelf on himself after failing to pull a phone off of its security device. He stole multiple cellular phones. The police released the thief’s video on Tuesday, asking people for information on him.

India’s squad for World Cup to be announced on April 15 in Mumbai

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will announce the Indian squad for the 2019 World Cup on April 15. The five-member selection committee headed by MSK Prasad will meet at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai to choose the 15-member squad. The World Cup will take place in England and Wales, starting May 30.

UK court rejects Vijay Mallya’s plea against extradition order

The UK High Court on Monday rejected fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya’s appeal against his extradition order. London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court had ordered Mallya’s extradition to India in December last year. The 63-year-old, who is wanted for wilful default of over ₹9,000 crore loan from Indian banks, has the option to appeal to the UK Supreme Court.

US woman freed from jail enters into daycare naked, arrested again

A US woman who was recently freed from a jail in Virginia broke into a daycare centre naked. A daycare employee who arrived early for her shift saw the woman, who claimed she was the centre owner’s wife, standing naked in one of the classrooms. The woman was arrested again and has been charged with unauthorised entry and indecent exposure.

Only strategic investors with ₹1,000 cr net worth can bid for Jet

Cash-strapped Jet Airways’ lenders have set minimum net worth of ₹1,000 crore or an equal amount of fund for investment for strategic investors to bid for a stake in the airline. Alternatively, three years of experience in the aviation sector will also qualify a strategic investor to bid for Jet. Strategic investors could be NRIs, foreigners or of Indian origin.

Goa minority community will vote for BJP: CM Pramod Sawant

Goa CM Pramod Sawant on Monday exuded confidence that the minority community in the state will vote for the BJP in the upcoming general elections. He added that the minority community voters are aware of the development undertaken by PM Narendra Modi-led government. ₹20,000cr startup fund, 50,000 new startups in BJP manifesto

The BJP in its manifesto for 2019 general elections has promised to create ₹20,000-crore ‘Seed Startup Fund’ and facilitate the establishment of 50,000 new startups by 2024. It also announced a scheme to offer collateral-free credit of up to ₹50 lakh to entrepreneurs. Under this, it guarantees 50% of the loan amount for female entrepreneurs and 25% for male entrepreneurs.

After launching BJP’s manifesto for 2019 Lok Sabha polls, PM Narendra Modi on Monday asserted that “nationalism is the party’s inspiration” and “good governance is its mantra”. The PM added that the BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ aims to make India a developed nation by 2047. He said, “We first addressed the needs of the people, now we will fulfil their aspirations.”

Ahead of the general elections, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray has criticised Congress President Rahul Gandhi over his party’s promise to abolish sedition law saying that he’ll not be allowed to come to power by supporting “traitors”. BJP promises to spend ₹100 lakh cr on infrastructure by 2024

PM Narendra Modi’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has pledged to spend ₹100 lakh crore on infrastructure by 2024, if re-elected. “We recognize that investment-driven growth requires cheaper cost of capital,” the party’s election manifesto stated. “By anchoring inflation at 4% and cleaning up banking system we have created the space for structural reduction in the cost of capital,” it added.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday accused the Congress of trying to politicise issues related to the national security. He added that national security issues are not debatable political subjects and internal and external security are important for the country. Gadkari said political parties should deliberate on economic policies, developmental issues and increase the level of debate.

Union Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday called the BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ (manifesto) for 2019 Lok Sabha elections a “vision document”. He added that the BJP is “fully committed to nationalism and zero tolerance towards terrorism”. He further said, “Will give ₹6,000 yearly income support to farmers and pension to small and marginal farmers aged 60 and above.”

B Capital, the venture capital firm co-founded by Facebook Co-founder Eduardo Saverin, has raised about $406 million in the first close of its second fund, as per US SEC filings. Since late March, B Capital Fund II has raised the funding from 62 investors, the filings added. B Capital has invested in Mumbai-headquartered mobile point-of-sale services startup Mswipe.

SAP cloud business head Robert quits after 27 yrs at company

Software company SAP has announced Robert Enslin has stepped down as its cloud business group’s President after 27 years in the company. During his two-year tenure as the cloud business head, Enslin helped build SAP’s cloud portfolio, including its $8-billion deal to buy Qualtrics, the Germany-based company said. Enslin will be succeeded by the company’s executive board member Jennifer Morgan.

Jet Airways lenders plan to sell up to 75% stake in airline

A consortium of 26 lenders led by the State Bank of India (SBI) on Monday invited bids from potential investors for stake sale of up to 75% in cash-strapped Jet Airways. SBI would sell the stake to either a strategic investor or a financial investor. Prospective bidders are required to submit expressions of interest in the carrier by April 10.

Marginal farmers aged 60 and above will get pension facility: BJP

He added that small and marginal farmers, who are aged 60 and above, will also be given pension facility. BJP’s manifesto includes 75 resolutions.

Kerala tourist, pilot killed in Himachal paragliding crash

A tourist from Kerala and a pilot died in a paragliding crash in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district on Sunday, police said. Preliminary probe has revealed that the pilot lost control over the glider while performing a stunt up in the air. While the tourist died on the spot, the pilot succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, police added.

Woman faces jail in Dubai for calling ex-husband’s new wife ‘horse’

A British woman is facing two years in jail in Dubai for calling her ex-husband’s new wife a “horse” on Facebook. Laleh Shahravesh was arrested at a Dubai airport after flying there to attend her former husband’s funeral. The 55-year-old faces prosecution over two Facebook comments she posted on pictures of her husband remarrying in 2016.

2 ex-SC officials who posted wrong order in Anil Ambani case arrested

Delhi Police today arrested two ex-Supreme Court officials for tampering with an order directing personal appearance of Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani in Ericsson case. The officials were sacked by CJI Ranjan Gogoi in February. The court had sought Anil’s personal appearance in its verbal order, however, the uploaded order read, “personal appearance of alleged contemnor(s) dispensed with.”
