The Election Commission of India on Monday banned Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan from campaigning for 72 hours over his ‘khaki underwear’ remark on BJP’s Jaya Prada. Meanwhile, BJP leader Maneka Gandhi has also been banned from campaigning for 48 hours over her communal remarks. The ban for both the leaders will come into force at 10 am tomorrow.

An 18-year-old Italian accused of raping a 17-year-old British girl on a cruise ship has been freed on a legal technicality by a Spanish judge who said the alleged attack took place in international waters. The victim said she was raped when the cruise ship was sailing through the Mediterranean while traveling from Palma to Valencia.

A 25-year-old Canadian tourist fell more than 100 metre (330 feet) to his death after his zipline cable snapped in Thailand’s Chiang Mai. Spencer Charles, who was on holiday in Thailand with his girlfriend and a group of friends, was riding a zipline in the forests at the Flight of the Gibbon, when his safety locks broke.

FIFA bans convicted Brazilian football official for life
Brazilian soccer official Jose Maria Marin was banned for life by FIFA on Monday, 16 months after he was convicted of corruption charges in the United States. The 86-year-old Marin, who led Brazil’s organising committee for the 2014 World Cup, was sentenced in August to four years in prison for racketeering, money laundering and wire fraud.
IBM working on ‘Smart Mirror’ tech for offline retailers
Technology giant IBM is working on ‘Smart Mirror’ technology, which it intends to launch in offline retail stores, starting with Vero Moda. The mirror will reportedly help customers understand which features of the product suit them and could recommend changes. “The plan is to convert more footfalls into actual sales at these stores,” IBM’s Kamal Singhani said.
Bengaluru airport hikes user fee by 120% to fund expansion
Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on Monday said it has increased its User Development Fee (UDF) to fund expansion. The fee has been revised by 120% to ₹306 for domestic departures and by 119% to ₹1,226 for international departures. The revised fee is applicable between April 16 and August 15, after which it will be rolled back.

TCS shares gain 5% after Q4 results, m-cap up by ₹36,136 cr
Shares of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) gained 5% on Monday after the IT company reported an almost 18% year-on-year rise in the March quarter profit at ₹8,126 crore, beating estimates. The company also added ₹36,136 crore to its market valuation. TCS had reported a revenue of ₹38,010 crore during the quarter, its strongest revenue growth in the last 15 quarters.
India’s trade deficit narrows to $10.89 billion in March
India’s trade deficit narrowed to $10.89 billion in March as against $13.51 billion in the year-ago period, government data showed on Monday. Merchandise exports during March rose by 11.02% to $32.55 billion from the year-ago period while imports were up 1.44% to $43.44 billion. The country’s trade deficit for 2018-19 was up nearly 9% at $176.42 billion.

BJP Mandal President shot dead in Odisha’s Khordha
BJP Khordha Mandal President Manguli Jena was allegedly shot dead by two bike-borne miscreants near a party office in Odisha’s Khordha on Sunday, police said. Khordha BJP MLA candidate Kalu Khandayatra said that Jena was shot when he was leaving after a meeting. Musk tweets on Tesla forecast again amid talks with SEC

Only known female turtle of 4 rare softshell turtles dies
The only known female of the last four remaining Yangtze giant softshell turtles, one of the world’s rarest turtle species, has died in China’s Suzhou Zoo. The about 90-year-old turtle had been artificially inseminated a day before she passed away. One male turtle remains in the zoo, while two other turtles of unknown gender live in Vietnam in the wild.
