Boy declared brain dead sheds tears before funeral, brought to senses
Telangana’s 18-year-old Gandham Kiran, who was declared brain dead by doctors following a week-long coma, was taken back to the hospital after his mother noticed tears flowing from his eyes during his funeral preparations. Doctors treated him in consultation with experts from Hyderabad. “Within three days, Kiran came to senses and started talking to us,” his mother said.
Mexico uses X-ray scanner, finds migrants hidden inside trucks
Mexican authorities found several migrants hidden inside secret compartments of trucks using an X-ray scanner at checkpoints. The migrants are now in the custody of the National Migration Institute. 13,000 affected as heavy rains cause flash floods in Assam
Heavy rains for the past two days have caused flash floods in parts of Assam affecting nearly 13,000 people. Over 200 people have been moved to relief camps as 43 villages in five districts of the state have been flooded. Excess water from the Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project has also been released in Assam’s Lakhimpur district, adding to the flood.
Titan says demand hit by high gold prices, shares fall 12%
Shares of Titan Company on Tuesday fell 12.26% lower after it reported subdued jewellery segment growth due to “very high gold prices” in the June quarter. The company on Monday announced a lower than expected first-quarter growth owing to tough macro-economic environment and weak consumption. IBM closes $34-bn Red Hat acquisition deal; its biggest in history
IT giant IBM has closed its $34-billion deal to acquire open-source software company Red Hat, marking its biggest-ever acquisition in its over 100-year history. IBM, which had agreed to buy Red Hat in October 2018, paid $190 a share for acquiring the firm, representing a 63% premium. The deal is the world’s second-largest technology deal ever, Bloomberg claimed.

Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina has rejected a proposal by US lawmaker Bradley Sherman to integrate Myanmar’s Rakhine State with Bangladesh. “It’s never right to create troubles inside a sovereign country…The issue they’ve touched upon is a burning one…This isn’t acceptable,” Hasina said about the proposal. Over 7 lakh Rohingya Muslims fled to Bangladesh following the violence in Rakhine State.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday tweeted that “India has long had a field day putting Tariffs on American products. No longer acceptable!” India recently slapped higher tariffs on 28 American products including apples and almonds in retaliation to US unilaterally imposing import tariffs on steel and aluminium last year. Trump has repeatedly called out India for its high tariffs.

UAE partially withdraws troops from Yemen amid civil war: Report
The UAE has partially withdrawn its troops from Yemen from areas including the port city of Hodeidah, an official said on condition of anonymity. The withdrawal had been discussed with Saudi Arabia, the official added. The UAE is part of the Saudi Arabia-led coalition fighting the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen’s civil war.
