Shift in Learning Pattern

James Thomas (Country Head, Kronos India) says Effective management of workforce is emerging as a key competitive advantage today

Technology is encompassing our daily lives in more than one way and human capital management has increasingly become a key focus area worldwide.

Effective management of workforce is emerging as a key competitive advantage. Delivery, support and management of HR is increasingly getting linked to technology in a way that the use of technology is no longer a sole function of the HR departments but employees too. Today’s competitive differentiation comes from innovation and it takes place when a highly engaged employee ideates. So, to raise the bar and give an innovative edge to employee engagement, some of the trends that are likely to emerge in 2013 are: Consolidation of HR operational excellence and analytics: Capturing employee’s time, overtime and absenteeism will not be enough. By providing a realistic view of their workforce availability and utilisation of talent is likely to lend organisations a competitive edge. Therefore, a workforce management system for improving productivity can help companies respond better to prevailing market conditions. The business to social convergence: The need to extend business applications to new social media platforms and establishing new ways to manage employees is likely to emerge stronger than before. The shifting patterns from the data centric world to the visual world: The technological shifts from GSM and CDMA to HSPA and LTE networks would lead to increased used of video content. Delivery of content and information to employees, T&D, e-learning are all expected to see significant shifts.

It is an exciting time in the area of human capital management for HR practitioners and employees as they are provided with options driven by technology and mobility. The success lies in taking some bold moves, embracing them and adapting constantly.
