Croma is an Indian retail chain for consumer electronics and durables. It is the nation’s first large format specialist retail chain for consumer electronics and durables with successful expansion into Croma Zip stores, Croma Kiosks and latest online vertical, Tata Group company Infiniti Retail runs Croma stores in India. Infiniti Retail Ltd is a 100% subsidiary of Tata Sons. Presently, there are a total of 101 Croma stores in 25 cities in India. PANTALOONS

Pantaloons Fashion & Retail Limited is an Indian premium clothing retail chain. The first Pantaloons store was launched in Gariahat, Kolkata in 1997. Pantaloons stores are present in 44 cities. Pantaloons was previously controlled by the Future Group, but has now been taken over by Aditya Birla Nuvo Limited (ABNL). According to a recent edition of the Brand Trust Report, Pantaloons featured among 100 most trusted brands in India. Pantaloons is constantly extending its footprint into the rest of modern India. Shoppers Stop is an Indian retailing company promoted by the K Raheja Group. Started in the year 1991 with its first store in Andheri, Mumbai. Shoppers Stop Ltd. has been awarded “the Hall of Fame” award and has also won “the Emerging Market Retailer of the Year Award” by World Retail Congress. Shoppers Stop presently has 74 stores across 35 cities in India. Aditya Birla Retail Limited (ABRL) is the retail arm of Aditya Birla Group, a $41 billion corporation in the league of Fortune 500 companies. TRENT (TATA GROUP, LANDMARK, WESTSIDE)

Trent is the retail arm of the Tata group. In 1998, Tata sold off their 50% stake in the cosmetic products company Lakmé to HLL for Rs 200 Crore (approx. 45 million US$), and created Trent from the money it made through the sale. All shareholders of Lakmé were given different shares in Trent. Simone Tata, the chairperson of Lakmé, went on to head Trent. Trent presently operates Westside, (one of the many growing retail chains in India) and Landmark, a bookstore chain in various locations of India.

PLANET M (VIDEOCON)

Planet M is an Indian music retail store founded by The Times Group (BCCL). It was sold to Next Retail India Ltd. of Mumbai, the retail arm of Videocon, in November 2007. It is present in many cities (140-plus locations) all over India. These stores are mainly known for selling music and movies and related accessories. They also sell gaming consoles and handhelds like PlayStation Portable, PS2, PS3 and Xbox 360. Planet M is also a new entrant in the mobile retail business. They offer a wide range of mobile handsets with lucrative schemes.

Spencer’s Retail is a chain of retail stores based in Kolkata, West Bengal. Spencer’s is based on the ‘Food First’ Format (it mainly offers fresh and packaged food). Many outlets though sport multiple formats for retailing food, apparel, fashion, electronics, lifestyle products, music and books. It is owned by the RPG Group, a major business house. DIGIWORLD (VIDEOCON)

Videocon’s Digiworld has a good presence in terms of numbers – it is currently present in more than 400 locations pan India with a majority of its presence in North India. DW denotes the ‘Digitally Wow’ philosophy. Undergoing a logo innovation, the new DW logo has three colours, red, blue and orange. Red color denotes electronic goods. RELIANCE RETAIL

Reliance Retail Ltd. is a subsidiary company of Reliance Industries. Founded in 2006 and based in Mumbai, it is the largest retailer in India in terms of revenue. Its retail outlets offer foods, groceries, apparel and footwear, lifestyle and home improvement products, electronic goods, and farm implements and inputs. The company’s outlets also provide vegetables, fruits and flowers. It focuses on consumer goods, consumer durables, travel services, energy, entertainment and leisure, and health and well-being products, as well as on educational products and services. BHARTI RETAIL

Bharti Retail is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharti Enterprises. Bharti Retail operates a chain of multiple format stores. The company’s neighborhood format stores operate under the Easyday brand and the compact hypermarket format under the ‘Easyday market’ brand. Recently the company has become more involved in the food economic sectors, with a joint partnership in the agricultural company FieldFresh. Bharti Enterprises is an Indian business conglomerate headquartered in New Delhi, India. It was founded in 1976 by Sunil Bharti Mittal and it operates in 20 countries across Asia and Africa. Bharti Enterprises owns businesses spanning across telecommunications, retail, financial services and manufacturing.

LANDMARK

Landmark is one of the leading retailers of books and music in India. Established in 1987 as a book retailer in India, it became a part of Trent, the Tata Company that runs the Westside retail chain, in 2005. Trent is the retail arm of the Tata group.
