10 Naxals gunned down in Chhattisgarh
The security forces have reportedly gunned down 10 Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur. The Naxals were killed in an encounter with the security forces and 11 weapons are said to have been recovered. SP Bijapur told ANI that the team that gunned down Naxals comprosed of personnel from Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Guard (DRG).

Yogi Adityanath to table Budget today
The Yogi Adityanath government will table its Annual Budget in the state legislature on Thursday. The Budget size is likely to touch Rs 4.75 trillion, which would be nearly 11 per cent higher than the Annual Budget 2018-19 of about Rs 4.28 trillion presented in February 2018. Considering it is an election year with the 2019 Lok Sabha polls just months away, the Budget is crucial for the Yogi Adityanath Government.

RBI cuts repo rate by 25 bps to 6.25%, 1st cut since Aug 2017
The Reserve Bank of India, for the first time since August 2017, has cut the repo rate by 25 basis points to 6.25% during its bi-monthly monetary policy review. Meanwhile, the reverse repo rate stands adjusted at 6%. This is the first policy review under the newly appointed RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, who took over after Urjit Patel’s exit.

After a report claimed UPA government leaked, to the media, an inaccurate story about a coup allegedly being plotted by the army in 2012, BJP asked Congress the identity of the minister who leaked the story. The Sunday Guardian reported the UPA government’s leadership had informally asked Intelligence Bureau to ascertain if General VK Singh-led army was attempting a coup.

2018 was the 4th warmest year on record, confirms NASA
Earth’s global surface temperatures in 2018 were the fourth warmest since 1880, according to independent analyses by NASA and the US weather agency NOAA. Global temperatures in 2018 were 0.83 ºC warmer than the 1951-1980 mean, ranking behind those of 2016, 2017 and 2015, as per NASA. The past five years are, collectively, the warmest years on record, NASA added.

Virginity test of brides form of sexual assault: Maharashtra govt
Forcing a woman to undergo virginity test will be made a punishable offence, the Maharashtra government said on Wednesday. The government said it would take steps to ensure that such complaints are treated as cases of sexual harassment. Minister of State for Home Ranjit Patil met a delegation of activists and said a circular regarding this will be issued soon.

Tamil man murdered after opposing conversion of Dalits
A 42-year-old Pattali Makkal Katchi functionary named Ramalingam was allegedly murdered by unidentified men on Tuesday night in Thirubuvanam, Tamil Nadu. Earlier in the day, Ramalingam had an argument with several people, who he claimed were trying to convert some Dalits in the area to Islam. Meanwhile, 250 policemen have been posted in the area over fears of communal unrest.

7 convicted for murders that led to 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots
Nearly six years after the Muzaffarnagar riots, a court on Wednesday convicted seven people for killing two cousin brothers in Uttar Pradesh’s Kawal village. The incident is believed to have triggered the 2013 riots that left over 60 people dead and displaced over 40,000. The cousins were murdered after allegedly stabbing to death a youth who was harassing their sister.

School calls in exorcists after principal feels girls are possessed
A government school in Nainital allegedly called in exorcists and carried out ancestor worship after the principal felt some school girls were “possessed”. The principal said a Class 7 girl started breaking chairs and shouting loudly and her “influence” spread to other girls. He then sought help from village head, adding that 14 girls were possessed by Tuesday.

Rape survivor’s family told to vacate home given by previous govt
The Indore Development Authority (IDA) on Wednesday asked the family of an eight-year-old gangrape survivor to vacate their home provided by the previous government as no official order was issued. The IDA said the family had rented out the house and were living elsewhere. Meanwhile, a Madhya Pradesh minister said the family would not be asked to vacate the house.
