EC orders Twitter to remove all tweets on Lok Sabha exit polls

Ahead of the last phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on May 19, the Election Commission has ordered Twitter India to remove all the tweets related to exit polls. This comes amid leaks of exit polls being shared on the platform. The seven-phase election began from April 11 and the results are to be announced on May 23.

Kolkata Police broke door, arrested me at 2 am: BJP’s Bagga on clash

BJP spokesperson Tajinder Bagga has claimed that Kolkata Police broke his hotel room door and arrested him at 2 am on CM Mamata Banerjee’s orders over the violence during Amit Shah’s rally. Bagga added that he was later released due to lack of evidence. TMC leader Derek O’Brien called Bagga an “outside goon” and accused him of causing violence.

Former swimming champion MB Balakrishnan dies in accident aged 29

Tamil Nadu swimmer and South Asian Games gold medalist MB Balakrishnan died in a road accident in Chennai on Tuesday night. The 29-year-old was riding his bike when he fell under a mixer lorry, which ran over and killed him. Balakrishnan was until recently working in the US and came back to India after his visa application was denied.

Morgan banned for an ODI after 2nd minor over-rate offence

England captain Eoin Morgan has been banned for an ODI and fined 40% of his match fee after maintaining a slow over-rate in the third ODI against Pakistan at Bristol. This was Morgan’s second minor over-rate offence in the last 12 months, with the previous one coming against Windies in February. England are currently leading the five-match series 2-0.

Defence Space agency to come up at Bengaluru: Reports

India will set up its military space agency headquartered at Bengaluru with fighter pilot Air Vice Marshal SP Dharkar as its likely head, as per reports. The space agency is likely to command all space assets of the Army, Air Force and Navy. The final decision on the capabilities and assets to be given hasn’t been taken yet, reports added.

Modi added, “I will gracefully accept it and will not file an FIR.” This comes after BJP worker Priyanka was arrested for sharing a meme of the WB CM Mamata Banerjee.

Croatian World Cupper Stimac named Indian men’s football team coach

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has appointed Igor Stimac as the head coach of the senior men’s team on a two-year deal. The 51-year-old, who was part of Croatia’s squad that came third in the 1998 World Cup and coached Croatian national team in 2012-2013, replaces Stephen Constantine who was at the helm for nearly five years.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has tweeted that he found a new word ‘Modilie’ in the English dictionary. The morphed image showed the word’s meaning as “to constantly Modify the truth”. This comes after PM Narendra Modi claimed to have used a digital camera and e-mail in 1987-88 and also said cloud cover hid IAF jets from radar during Balakot airstrike.

Kolkata woman jumps onto molester’s bike, gets him arrested

After a 28-year-old man named Subodh Sharma touched her inappropriately, a 21-year-old Kolkata college student jumped onto his bike and punched him while covering his eyes. The girl kept shouting for help despite the accused biting fingers of both her hands. Around five people came to her rescue and grabbed the accused by the collar after which he was arrested.

Nuclear test ban agency offers ‘Observer’ status to India

The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) has offered India an ‘Observer’ status and access to data from the International Monitoring System. The CTBT is a legally-binding treaty that aims to ban all nuclear explosions across the world. It has been signed by 184 countries but not come into force as eight countries including India have not ratified it.

Darwin Platform Group offers ₹14,000 cr to buy Jet Airways: CEO

Mumbai-based Darwin Platform Group has offered ₹14,000 crore to acquire Jet Airways, CEO Rahul Ganpule said. According to the group’s website, it has companies across sectors including aviation, oil and gas, hospitality, and real estate. “They (SBI Caps) had called us. We wanted to understand the liability and assets of Jet Airways and where we stand,” Ganpule said after discussions.

After the Election Commission (EC) announced a ban on campaigning in nine West Bengal constituencies from 10 PM tomorrow, state CM Mamata Banerjee said it’s an “unprecedented decision”. Pakistan extends airspace ban for Indian flights till May 30

Pakistan has extended its airspace ban for Indian flights till May 30 which was imposed by the country on February 27 following the airstrike in Balakot by the IAF. The government would consider lifting the ban after the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections in India, Pakistan said. The decision has been notified to the authorities and pilots, it added.

12% GST on dues if home completion certificate issued by Mar: Govt

Homebuyers must pay 12% GST on balance due to builders if the housing project has been granted completion certificate by March 31, the CBIC said. The GST Council in March allowed developers to shift to 5% GST rate for residential units and 1% for affordable housing without the benefit of input tax credit (ITC) from April 1, 2019.
