The 47-year-old, who is currently the President of Cricket Association of Bengal, will have to demit his post after nine months as he will go into compulsory cooling-off period.
Hong Kong withdraws extradition bill that sparked months-long protests
Hong Kong’s legislature on Wednesday formally withdrew planned legislation that would have allowed extradition of people to mainland China. The planned bill had sparked widespread protests in the city. However, the move only meets one of the five demands by pro-democracy protestors and may not lead to the end of months-long protests.

Malayalam actress Manju Warrier has filed a complaint against filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon, alleging that he attempted to defame her through organised social media defamation campaigns. New world record for smallest image sensor in market
Advanced digital imaging solutions developer OmniVision has secured the Guinness World Record for the smallest commercially available image sensor. The tiny device, measuring roughly half a millimetre squared, can address challenges posed by reusable medical imaging equipment, OmniVision said. It can offer a high-quality solution for disposable guidewires, catheters and endoscopes, it added.
US Air Force gets its first anti-drone laser weapon from Raytheon
The US Air Force has received its first anti-drone weapon system from defence contractor Raytheon. The system, introduced about a year ago by Raytheon, is a high-energy laser system mounted on a small all-terrain vehicle which uses electro-optical/infrared sensors to detect and track drones and neutralise them in seconds. The system can deliver “dozens” of laser shots on single charge.

No trace of Vikram lander: NASA after taking new pics of landing site
NASA has said that it found no evidence of Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram lander in its latest images of the landing site captured during a flyby of its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) on October 14. A senior official said the camera team carefully examined the images using the ratio of an image from prior to the landing attempt to those acquired recently.

18 terrorists killed, JeM launch pads destroyed in PoK by India: Reports
Officials in Indian security agencies have reportedly said that at least 18 terrorists along with 16 Pakistani Army personnel were killed during the Indian Army’s attack on terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on October 19 and 20. The terror launch pads housing terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed along the LOC were also reportedly destroyed in the pin-point artillery firing by the forces.

Japan imported Ebola ahead of Olympics to be prepared
Japan has imported Ebola and four other dangerous viruses in preparation for a possible outbreak at the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Japan’s health ministry says researchers will use the samples to validate tests under development. This is the first time that pathogens rated biosafety-level-4, the most dangerous rating, have been allowed to enter Japan’s National Institute of Infectious Diseases.

Union Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal has said that the central government “will start WiFi services” in running trains in the next four to four-and-a-half years. Calling it “complicated technology subject”, Goyal added, “Giving WiFi in running trains requires investment…there have to be equipments inside trains.” He further said that foreign technology and investors might’ve to be brought in.
700 kg of illegal firecrackers seized in Delhi, 1 arrested
Police on Tuesday arrested a man in possession of over 700 kg of illegal firecrackers in East Delhi’s Jagatpuri. Following a tip-off, the police raided on his shop where he had stocked the firecrackers. Reportedly, he had procured the firecrackers from different parts of western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The Supreme Court had banned conventional firecrackers last year in Delhi-NCR.

SoftBank confirms will take 80% control of WeWork, infuse $5 bn
US shared office space startup WeWork and SoftBank Group have confirmed an up to $8-billion fund infusion, where SoftBank will commit $5 billion, while a $3-billion tender offer will be issued in buybacks for shareholders. After the closing and the tender offer, SoftBank will own about 80% of the startup. SoftBank will, however, not hold a majority of voting rights.
Go-Jek Co-founder Makarim named Indonesia’s education minister Indonesian President Joko Widodo has named Indonesian ride-hailing and payments unicorn Go-Jek’s Co-founder and former CEO Nadiem Makarim as the nation’s education and culture minister. Makarim officially resigned as Go-Jek’s CEO earlier this week to join Widodo’s Cabinet. He will keep his stake but not have any advisory or executive role at Go-Jek, as per the billion-dollar startup’s spokesman.
