German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is on a two-day visit to India, on Friday held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following which 22 wide-ranging agreements were signed between the two nations to strengthen their bilateral ties. The pacts include joint declarations for cooperation on strategic projects, green urban mobility, smart cities, startups and agricultural market development.

Israeli surveillance firm NSO Group charges government agencies $650,000 (₹4.6 crore) to hack 10 phones, on top of a flat installation fee of $500,000 (₹3.53 crore), according to a 2016 price list. NSO documents said clients gets “unlimited access to a target’s mobile devices”. WhatsApp recently confirmed that Indian journalists and human rights activists were targeted by NSO’s spyware Pegasus.

Man crushed to death after 100-tonne girder falls on him in Mumbai

A driver was crushed to death after a 100-tonne girder, being transported for the construction of Metro line, fell on him in Mumbai, police said on Friday. The deceased was identified as Arshad Shaikh. He was driving an escorting vehicle behind a trailer that was transporting the girder, an official said, adding, that the girder was apparently not secured properly.

131 West Bengal workers to be brought back from Kashmir: Mamata

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Friday said the state government is bringing 131 labourers working in Kashmir back to their home state. The labourers, hailing from Murshidabad, Dinajpur and Malda, will be brought back with the help of state government. This comes after six labourers hailing from West Bengal were shot dead by terrorists in J&K’s Kulgam district.

AIIMS says no need to admit Chidambaram; HC asks Tihar to give him mask

India yet to find land for $60 billion oil refinery: Saudi

Saudi Arabia said India is yet to find land for the $60-billion refinery that Indian state-run firms are building with Aramco and ADNOC.
