Some Jet Airways lessors to take back their planes: Reports
Some lessors of cash-strapped Jet Airways have reportedly begun terminating lease deals over unpaid dues and are preparing to move the planes abroad. Two lessors have applied to aviation regulator DGCA to deregister at least five planes leased to the carrier, reports stated. Jet, whose lessors include GE Capital Aviation Services and AerCap Holdings, has grounded 37 planes so far.
Man attacked by arrow survives after it pierces through his phone
A 43-year-old Australian man survived after a man known to him attacked him with an arrow outside his house. The arrow fired by the attacker pierced through the man’s mobile phone, which he had held up to take a photo of the armed man. The phone hit him in the chin, leaving a small cut that didn’t require medical treatment.
Rude staff top complaint of Indian flyers, lost bags second
Most complaints filed by air passengers in the Civil Aviation Ministry’s Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring system (CPGRAM) is related to airline staff’s behaviour and harassment of flyers, as per an official document. The second highest number of complaints pertained to loss of baggage. The CPGRAM is an online system which aims to provide “speedy redress” of grievances.
2 men playing PUBG near tracks killed by train in Maharashtra
Two young men, 24-year-old Nagesh Gore and 22-year-old Swapnil Annapurne, who were engrossed in playing PUBG near the railway tracks in Maharashtra’s Hingoli on Saturday, died as they were run over by a train. They were run over by the Hyderabad-Ajmer train. Their bodies were found late at night by locals residing in the area, police said.

Recalling escaping the terror attack on a mosque in New Zealand’s Christchurch, Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal said that the team survived by just a matter of 30 seconds. “If things had gone wrong by even a little bit, it would have been our dead bodies,” he added. “[The incident] was something we will never forget,” he further said.

Social activist Anna Hazare on Sunday said that the government was “forced” to appoint a Lokpal after pressure from the people’s movement and the Supreme Court. “The world is now seeing how powerful the public is,” Hazare added. This comes amid reports of Lokpal selection panel clearing the name of a retired Supreme Court judge for the post.
Accused of witchcraft, tribal woman lynched in West Bengal
A tribal woman was lynched and four other women were injured in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district on Sunday after a kangaroo court declared them witches. The 51-year-old deceased woman was accused of practising black magic that was allegedly making people in the village ill. The four other women were admitted to a hospital after the police rescued them.
Soldier martyred, 3 injured in ceasefire violation in J&K
An Army soldier was martyred and three others were injured in ceasefire violation along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Monday. Pakistani forces resorted to firing from small arms and shelling mortars in the Sunderbani sector. The firing commenced at around 5:30 am and ended at 7:15 am, Defence spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand said.

Proposal filed in US to identify 911 caller’s building floor
America’s Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued a proposal to help first responders identify the floor of a building in which the 911 call occurred. It proposes that wireless service providers give location information on the z-axis, showing the caller’s vertical position. It proposed accuracy of plus or minus three metres relative to handset for 80% indoor wireless 911 calls.

Jet Airways suspends all flights to and from Abu Dhabi
Cash-strapped Jet Airways has suspended all flights to and from Abu Dhabi from Monday citing operational reasons. Etihad Airport Services has reportedly warned passengers of “minor disruption” due to the “short notice of flight cancellation”. Notably, Abu Dhabi is the base of Etihad Airways which has a 24% stake in Jet Airways and from whom the carrier expects an infusion.

Parrikar bought vegetables himself in IIT to reduce mess fee: Friend
After Goa CM Manohar Parrikar passed away on Sunday, his IIT Bombay friends recalled their experiences with him. Bakul Desai, Parrikar’s junior, said, “Our mess fee was ₹180 per month. In order to reduce the price, [Parrikar] went to buy vegetables himself.” Desai added that the idea was later adopted by the mess and the fee was reduced to ₹160.
Tharoor trolls restaurant over name which means ‘Have you pooped?’
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor recently took to Twitter to post a picture of an Ahmedabad restaurant chain’s outlet in Kochi named ‘Appiitto’, which translates to ‘Have you pooped?’ in Malayalam. Parrikar once ended IIT-Bombay mess strike by cooking with friends
Late Goa CM Manohar Parrikar’s close friend Bakul Desai has recalled how Parrikar, who was mess secretary of his hostel, once ended strike of mess workers at IIT-Bombay. Desai revealed that Parrikar took 40 of his friends to kitchen and cooked meal for the entire hostel. He added that the workers ended their strike immediately after that incident.

Snatchers on bike drag 33-year-old woman out of auto in east Delhi
A 33-year-old woman suffered a fractured hand and was nearly run over by moving vehicles after she fell off a running auto rickshaw while fighting off motorcycle-borne snatchers in east Delhi’s Geeta Colony. DCP (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav said one of the two suspects in the crime had been identified. “We have registered a case of attempt to robbery,” she added.
Fake IPS officer cheats woman of ₹1 lakh over govt job, arrested
A 30-year-old man named Rajkumar, impersonating an IPS officer from Delhi, was arrested for allegedly stalking and cheating a woman of ₹1 lakh on the pretext of providing a government job. The woman alleged they became friends after meeting in a gym. Rajkumar was working as a driver and earlier used to work in a gym, he revealed during interrogation.
IIT Delhi alumnus-led agritech startup DeHaat raises ₹30 crore
Agritech startup DeHaat, led by IIT Delhi alumnus Shashank Kumar, has raised around ₹30 crore in a pre-Series A funding round from investors including Omnivore and America’s AgFunder. Zomato Co-founder Pankaj Chaddah reportedly also participated in the round. Founded in 2012, the startup offers end-to-end agricultural services to farmers including distribution of high-quality agri inputs, among others.
Election team to hike 39 km in one day for one Arunachal voter
A polling party will hike 39 kilometre in one day to reach Malogam polling booth from Arunachal Pradesh’s Hayuliang to ensure the lone voter, 39-year-old Sokela, exercises her right to vote. Sokela’s husband had also voted from the booth in 2014 but has transferred his booth for 2019. The election in the constituency will take place on April 11.

PM Modi pays last respects to ex-Defence Minister & Goa CM Parrikar
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today visited the Kala Academy in Panaji to pay his last respects to Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who died aged 63 on Sunday. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Goa Governor Mridula Sinha also paid tribute to the former Defence Minister. Parrikar will be cremated with state honours at 5 pm today.
Goa courts to remain closed today to mourn CM Parrikar’s demise
Following the demise of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, High Court of Bombay at Goa and District Courts in the state will remain closed on Monday to observe a day of mourning. The Centre has also announced national mourning on Monday. Parrikar passed away on Sunday, aged 63, due to pancreatic cancer.
