Shoaib Akhtar was the first bowler to bowl over 100mph

Ex-Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar was the first player to bowl over 100mph, recording 100.04mph (161kmph) in an ODI against New Zealand on April 27, 2002. However, the record remained unofficial since ICC refused to sanction it as they did not have a standard measuring tool. In 2003, Akhtar went on to bowl the fastest delivery in recorded history, clocking 161.3kmph.

Golden Globe-winning British actor Idris Elba tied the knot with Canadian model girlfriend Sabrina Dhowre in a ceremony in Morocco’s Marrakesh on Friday. Elba and Dhowre, a former Miss Vancouver, had reportedly been dating since early 2017. The 46-year-old, known for his roles in TV series ‘The Wire’ and ‘Luther’, was previously married to Hanne Norgaard and Sonya Hamlin.

Bengali film actress Mimi Chakraborty declares assets worth ₹2.43 cr

Bengali film actress and Trinamool Congress candidate for West Bengal’s Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency, Mimi Chakraborty declared assets worth over ₹2.43 crore. These include ₹25,000 cash in hand, bank deposits of ₹71.89 lakh, a Kolkata flat and two cars among others. The 30-year-old actress, who did her graduation in arts, has shown annual income of over ₹15.39 lakh for 2017-18.

Lyricist Javed Akhtar and actor Prakash Raj, an Independent candidate from Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha seat, campaigned for CPI candidate Kanhaiya Kumar in Bihar’s Begusarai. “I’m assured of #citizensvoice in parliament.. #chowkidarSena won’t be able to stop this young voice of India,” Prakash Raj tweeted. All IPL 2019 playoff matches to start at 7.30 pm: Reports

The timings of IPL 2019 playoffs, beginning May 7, have reportedly been brought back by 30 minutes to ensure matches don’t stretch past midnight. “We’ve playoffs in the south where dew is a huge factor…Star had written to us to prepone timings,” an official said. Playoffs will be held in Chennai and Visakhapatnam, while final will be held in Hyderabad.

J&K Police vehicle used to deliver food at BJP rally, inquiry ordered

The J&K Police ordered an inquiry after a 29-second video showed a police vehicle being used for distribution of food packets and water bottles to people gathered for a BJP rally in Anantnag. The rally was addressed by BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav. The vehicle in question has been withdrawn from the protected person’s service.

India captain Virat Kohli cannot vote in 2019 Lok Sabha elections as he missed March 30 deadline to register his name in the voters’ list in Mumbai. “We’ve put his application on hold, his application will be considered for next elections,” an official said. Earlier, PM Narendra Modi had urged Kohli to vote and inspire others to exercise their right.

12 dead as bus falls into 200-foot gorge in Himachal’s Chamba

A private bus fell into a 200-foot-deep gorge near the Panchpula bridge in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district on Saturday evening, leaving at least 12 passengers dead. Several passengers have been injured in the accident and the death toll may go up, said Chamba Superintendent of Police (SP) Monika Bhutunguru. The bus was travelling from Dalhousie to Pathankot in Punjab.

First-ever Indian rhino born via artificial insemination at US zoo

After a 15-month pregnancy, Akuti, a seven-year-old Greater One-Horned Indian Rhinoceros, gave birth to a calf at Florida’s Zoo Miami in the first such artificial insemination birth. Zoo officials said that semen was collected from a male rhino last year as natural breeding wasn’t working. This marks only the second successful birth of the rare rhino species at the zoo.

Former IAF Wing Commander’s wife found dead at her house in Delhi

Neenu Jain, the 52-year-old wife of a former IAF Wing Commander was found dead at her house in Delhi’s Dwarka, police said on Saturday. A mobile phone, some cash and jewellery were found missing from the house and police has registered a case. Neenu’s father and brother had visited her home and saw her lying on the floor unconscious.

2 police personnel killed in Chhattisgarh as Naxals open fire

Two police personnel of Bijapur district were killed by Naxals on Saturday while they were going to a village on a motorbike. On April 9, BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi and four of his security personnel were killed as Naxals bombed his convoy two days before the elections began. Two Maoists, allegedly involved in the blast, were later killed in Dantewada.

Pakistan PM Imran Khan has said his country is hoping to have a “civilised relationship” with India after the Lok Sabha elections are over. “We have decent ties with Iran and we are trying to strengthen them,” said Khan. “The only problem right now is our relationship with India,” he was quoted as saying by state-run APP news agency.

200 US companies want to move base from China to India: USISPF

About 200 US companies are seeking to move their manufacturing base from China to India after the general elections, the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) said. The US-based advocacy group added that the companies have been making queries on how to invest in India. The investments that the companies would bring to India are substantial, it further said.

Jet Airways employee suffering from cancer commits suicide

A senior Jet Airways technician, Shailesh Singh, committed suicide in Maharashtra’s Palghar by jumping off his building’s terrace due to depression as he was suffering from cancer, police said today. An employee union, however, said the 45-year-old was facing “financial constraints” as Jet staff haven’t been paid salaries for some time. Singh’s son is also working in Jet’s operations department.
