Shreyas Gopal dismisses Kohli, ABD, Stoinis to take hat-trick

Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Shreyas Gopal became the first Indian to take a hat-trick in Indian Premier League 2019, achieving the feat against RCB on Tuesday. The 25-year-old dismissed Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Marcus Stoinis on the last three deliveries of his only over in the rain-curtailed five-over match. Overall, it was the second hat-trick in IPL 2019.

RCB out of playoffs race as match vs RR gets abandoned due to rain

The IPL 2019 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals was abandoned due to rain with 10 balls remaining after being reduced to a five-over fixture. Both the teams were awarded one point each as RCB became the first team to be officially eliminated from the IPL 2019 playoffs race. Rajasthan Royals are currently fifth on the points table.

Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale’s wife Kamini and 17 others have been awarded one-year jail sentence by a Mumbai court in connection with clashes between Shiv Sena and MNS workers during 2014 General polls. A police constable was injured in the clashes. The clashes had begun reportedly after both the party workers accused each other of distributing cash to voters.

Punjab hostel girls strip-searched over sanitary pad; wardens sacked

Students of a university in Punjab’s Bathinda staged a protest after a hostel warden allegedly asked girls to strip to check who among them had dumped a used sanitary pad in the hostel washroom. The warden wanted to find out who was menstruating to catch the culprit. The university terminated two security guards and two hostel wardens following the protests.

Odisha sounds high alert in 12 districts ahead of Cyclone Fani

Odisha has issued a high alert in 12 districts in view of Cyclone Fani, which is likely to make landfall by Friday afternoon. The India Meteorological Department said Fani has “intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm.” The Coast Guard and NDRF have been put on high alert, while fishermen have been advised against venturing into deep sea areas.

2 people contract HIV allegedly after ‘vampire facial’ at spa in US

Two people have been diagnosed with HIV allegedly after getting ‘vampire facials’ in a spa in US’ New Mexico. The spa was shut down last year after inspection revealed the staff was using its needles improperly. Following the closure, the state’s health facility contacted over 100 clients of the spa to get tested, of which two were diagnosed.

Google parent Alphabet records slowest revenue growth in 3 years

Google parent Alphabet has recorded its slowest revenue growth in three years over increased competition in advertising, changes in YouTube algorithms, among other factors, Reuters stated. Alphabet recorded $36.3 billion in revenue in the first quarter of 2019 up 17% from $31.1 billion in the same quarter last year. Alphabet revenue fell short of analysts’ expectation of about $37 billion.

US to make asylum seekers pay fee to get applications processed

US President Donald Trump has ordered to introduce rules under which migrants would be made to pay a fee to have their asylum applications processed. The asylum seekers who enter the US illegally will also be disqualified from obtaining temporary work permits. Trump further ordered that the asylum claims must be adjudicated in immigration court within 180 days.

PNB recovers ₹4,000 cr from stressed asset sale in January-March

PNB MD Sunil Mehta has said the lender recovered ₹4,000 crore from sale of stressed assets between January-March. The bank expects to recover ₹3,100 crore through sale of non-core assets in the first quarter of FY20, he added. PNB is looking to monetise its non-core assets after it was hit by ₹14,000-crore fraud involving diamantaire Nirav Modi in February 2018.

Kotak Mahindra Bank 4th quarter profit up 25% at ₹1,408 cr

Private lender Kotak Mahindra Bank reported a 25% rise in its March quarter profit at ₹1,408 crore, compared to ₹1,124 crore in the year-ago period. The rise was driven by strong loan growth of 21%, with the lender’s advances crossing ₹2 lakh crore. The bank’s net interest income jumped 18% to ₹3,048 crore, from ₹2,580 crore a year earlier.

737 MAX pilots didn’t completely follow procedure: Boeing

Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg has said the safety systems on the planemaker’s 737 MAX jets were designed properly. However, the pilots didn’t “completely” follow procedures the company had outlined to prevent the kind of malfunction that probably caused two fatal crashes, he added. “We design these systems…[but] these airplanes are flown in the hands of pilots,” he further said.

SEBI fines NSE ₹625 crore in co-location facility case Markets regulator SEBI has directed National Stock Exchange (NSE) to pay ₹625 crore for lapses in checking on brokers gaining unfair access through co-location servers placed at the site of exchange. NSE has also been prohibited from accessing the securities market for six months. SEBI has further found NSE’s ex-Managing Directors, Ravi Narain and Chitra Ramkrishna, guilty in the case.
