Plane carrying 143 skids off runway, goes into river in US

A Boeing 737 carrying 143 people skidded off the runway at the Naval Air Station Jacksonville in US’ Florida and went into a river on Friday, Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry tweeted. Adding that all onboard are alive and accounted for, Curry said fire and rescue crews were on the scene and were working to control jet fuel in the water.

Sonakshi campaigns for her mother Poonam Sinha in Lucknow

Actress Sonakshi Sinha on Friday campaigned for her mother Poonam Sinha, who is contesting the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat as a Samajwadi Party candidate. Sonakshi’s brother Kussh Sinha and Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav were also seen participating in the roadshow in Lucknow. The roadshow moved through three assembly constituencies and covered a distance of about 6 km.

She’s fit & fine: Actress Mumtaz’s family denies death rumours

Denying rumours of veteran actress Mumtaz’s death, a family member of the 71-year-old actress said, “She is alive, fit and fine. She wants to know why everybody is spreading false news.” Earlier, reports circulated on social media suggested that Mumtaz had passed away on Friday following a cardiac arrest. Director Milap Zaveri also took to Twitter to quash the rumours.

Priyanka Chopra’s brother’s wedding called off for 2nd time

The wedding of Priyanka Chopra’s brother Siddharth Chopra with Ishita Kumar has been called off, Priyanka’s mother Madhu Chopra has confirmed. Earlier, Ishita deleted all the pictures of the roka ceremony from her social media handles. In 2014, Siddharth’s marriage with his then girlfriend Kanika Mathur was also called off for unknown reasons.

The listing of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief and Pulwama attack mastermind Masood Azhar as a global terrorist by the United Nations has sent “a strong message about the importance of collective action to uphold global peace and stability,” the UK Foreign Office stated on Friday. It added, “The UK… has worked closely with international partners to achieve this result.”

11 girls allegedly killed by Bihar shelter home accused: CBI to SC

Eleven girls were allegedly murdered by prime accused Brajesh Thakur and his accomplices and a “bundle of bones” was recovered from a burial ground in the Muzaffarpur shelter home sexual abuse case, the CBI has told Supreme Court. The CBI added that it has filed chargesheets against 21 accused who allegedly raped and sexually abused girls at the shelter home.

India to purchase 10 Kamov-31 choppers from Russia for ₹3,600 cr

The Defence Ministry on Friday approved the Indian Navy’s proposal to acquire 10 Kamov-31 Airborne Early Warning and Control choppers from Russia at a cost of about ₹3,600 crore to strengthen its capability against aerial threats to aircraft carriers and warships. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council led by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The Uttarakhand High Court on Friday ordered the state’s former Chief Ministers to pay the market rent for the entire period they continued to occupy government accommodation since demitting office. They have also been asked to pay for other facilities, like electricity, water and petrol, provided to them. The state has to prepare the bills of amenities within four months​.

N Korea fires short-range missiles after failed summit with Trump

North Korea on Saturday fired several unidentified short-range missiles into the sea off its eastern coast, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said. This follows the February summit in Vietnam between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump that ended abruptly and without any agreement. South Korea initially reported a single missile was fired.

Warren Buffett, the world’s fourth-richest person with $90-billion wealth, drinks five cans of Coca-Cola a day and eats McDonald’s chicken nuggets at least thrice a week. The 88-year-old’s investment company Berkshire Hathaway owns nearly 10% of Coca-Cola, a stake worth $19.5 billion. Buffett is hosting tens of thousands of people in Omaha from May 3-5 for Berkshire’s annual shareholder weekend.

Berkshire Hathaway CEO and world’s fourth richest person Warren Buffett has lived in the same house in the US city of Omaha since 1958. The five-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home on 0.72 acres was assessed at $886,900 (₹6.13 crore) in 2019. Buffett, worth $90 billion, will host tens of thousands of people in Omaha from May 3-5 for Berkshire’s annual shareholder weekend.

EC notice to Mahesh Sharma for alleged poll code violation

The Election Commission on Friday issued a show-cause notice to Union Minister Mahesh Sharma for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct. Sharma had allegedly made objectionable remarks against Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and others. The commission has asked Sharma to submit his reply in 24 hours.

Tesla seeks to raise $2.7 bn, Musk to buy stock worth $25 mn Electric carmaker Tesla is selling 3.1 million shares at a price of $243 per share, up from the previous 2.7 million announced on Thursday, seeking to raise up to $2.7 billion, regulatory filings revealed. Tesla’s billionaire Co-founder and CEO Elon Musk also plans to buy stock worth $25 million. Musk currently holds a 20% stake in the $42-billion company.
