Congress President Rahul Gandhi has tendered an unconditional apology in a fresh affidavit to the Supreme Court for attributing ‘Chowkidar chor hai’ remark to the apex court, in connection with the Rafale case. This comes after the court pulled up Rahul for only expressing “regret” and not apologising in the 22-page affidavit submitted by him earlier in the contempt case.

A video shows Hollywood actor Brad Pitt saying ‘Oh my God’ after a photographer asks if he’s getting back with ex-wife Jennifer Aniston. “I got to ask you, everyone wants to know,” the photographer can be heard saying. Brad divorced Jennifer in 2005, after which he started dating Angelina Jolie, with whom he was married to from 2014 to 2016.

Modi will be known for pakoda, bhagoda schemes: Navjot Sidhu

Congress’ Navjot Singh Sidhu took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “Modi will be known for two schemes. One is the pakoda scheme for youngsters, the other is the bhagoda scheme.” Sidhu further claimed PM Modi had spent ₹6,000 crore on his own publicity, adding, “PM is no longer Pradhan Mantri but is Prachar Mantri (Publicity Minister).”

Press Club Leh accuses BJP of bribing journos; poll officer seeks FIR

The Press Club Leh had accused BJP of handing “envelopes filled with money” to its members to report in the party’s favour ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Ladakh. Following this, Leh District Election Officer Avny Lavasa ordered inquiry and prima facie found merit in the allegations. She then approached a court seeking FIR in the case.

Assam minister Himanta, WB BJP chief Ghosh’s convoy attacked

The convoy of West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh and Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was attacked in East Midnapore district on Tuesday evening allegedly by TMC supporters. The leaders escaped unhurt but their vehicles were damaged. Himanta tweeted, “While reinforcement from CRPF has arrived, the violent TMC goons are not allowing the forces to rescue us…Scene here is scary!”

Gang cheats people of ₹50L by promising job in Ayushman Bharat Yojana

Delhi Police have arrested four persons for allegedly cheating over 360 unemployed youths in various states of over ₹50 lakh on the pretext of providing jobs under the government’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana. Police confiscated laptops, mobile phones, SIM cards, and fake appointment letters printed on Ayushman Bharat Yojana letterhead from the accused.

Robbers fool bank staff, loot ₹58L from cash van in Hyderabad

A gang of robbers looted ₹58 lakh, meant to be deposited in an Axis Bank ATM, from a cash van in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The robbers diverted the attention of security guards and bank staff by saying some money had fallen on the other side of the vehicle, before fleeing with the cash. The police are examining nearby CCTV footage.

IAF plane overshoots runway at Mumbai airport; many flights delayed

An Indian Air Force transport aircraft, AN-32, overran the runway while leaving from the Mumbai airport to the Yelahanka Air Force Station near Bengaluru. While no injuries have been reported in the incident, it, however, caused a delay in many flights by around half an hour. “A recovery team has arrived…the aircraft will be cleared shortly,” an official said.

Man refuses security check and flees twice from B’luru metro station

Bengaluru Police are in search of a suspicious man who refused to be frisked at Kempegowda Metro Station for regular security check on Monday and fled. The man tried to enter the station from another entrance but failed and fled again. He had also offered money to a station housekeeping staffer for a “job”.

16-yr-old escapes after held captive, raped for 51 days by 3 men

A 16-year-old girl managed to escape from a place in Noida, where she was allegedly held captive and repeatedly raped by three youths for a period of 51 days. She identified two of the accused as her neighbours. The girl was kidnapped on March 2 and her family claimed that after her return, police initially refused to lodge the complaint.

Suicide blast outside Sufi shrine in Pak; 9 including 5 policemen killed

At least nine people, including five police officials, have lost their lives in a blast outside Pakistan’s Data Darbar, one of the largest Sufi shrines in South Asia. Officials confirmed it was a suicide attack and apparently targeted police officers stationed outside the shrine. Rescue teams are at the spot and the injured people have been rushed to hospitals.

Doctor who said judge “spread her legs” told to pay ex-wife ₹125cr

Indian-origin neurologist Gobinathan Devathasan from Singapore, who said the judge “spread her legs” for his wife’s lawyer, has been told to pay $18 million (over ₹125 crore) in assets, child support and spousal support by a British Columbia court. The 69-year-old, whose behaviour was described as “reprehensible” during the litigation, had hidden assets, refused to cooperate and breached asset freezes.

US woman pulls out alligator from pants at traffic stop by police

A woman in US’ Florida pulled out a one-foot-long baby alligator from her pants after she was pulled over by police for a check. The police said after they recovered 41 three-stripe turtles from her vehicle and asked her if she has anything else, she pulled out the live alligator. The case is now being investigated by the wildlife authority.

International researchers have made a smart suitcase that warns blind users before a collision, aimed at helping people with visual disabilities safely navigate airport terminals independently. It sounds an alarm beginning five seconds before collision and issues a stop sound when collision is imminent. They also modified an app that gives audio navigation directions to users for airport use.

Indian-origin scientist co-finds water on asteroid Itokawa

Indian-origin cosmochemist Maitrayee Bose, along with fellow Arizona State University scholar Ziliang Jin, co-founded water in asteroid Itokawa samples collected by Japanese space probe Hayabusa. Samples were each about half the thickness of a human hair. These findings suggest similar asteroids’ impacts early in Earth’s history could’ve delivered as much as half of ocean water, researchers said.

New plastic material that can be recycled repeatedly made

Researchers at the US Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory have developed a new recyclable plastic. Called PDK, it can be disassembled at the molecular level and then reassembled into a different shape, texture, and colour repeatedly “without loss of performance or quality”. The researchers believe PDK could be a good alternative to non-recyclable plastics in use today.

Essel Group on Tuesday said its stake sale process of Zee Entertainment Enterprises is “in steady progress” and “at an advanced stage”. Zee Entertainment had last year announced that its promoters, led by Subhash Chandra, plan to sell up to 50% of their stake in the company to a strategic partner. Essel Group is selling assets to repay lenders.

Jet Airways pilots union asks SC to direct SBI to release funds

et Airways pilots’ union has appealed to the Supreme Court to direct SBI to release interim funding to try to revive the grounded airline. SBI’s “singular decision” to not give ₹1,500-crore funding, after agreeing to it earlier, has resulted in the airline being grounded, it said. This has impacted the livelihood of 22,000 Jet Airways employees, the union added.

Mumbai Indians on Tuesday defeated Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier 1 at Chennai to reach Indian Premier League final for the fifth time. Volkswagen unit Porsche fined ₹4,100 crore over diesel scandal

German luxury carmaker Porsche has been fined €535 million (over ₹4,100 crore) by public prosecutors for lapses in supervisory duties which allowed the company to cheat diesel emissions tests. Porsche, a unit of Volkswagen Group, said it would not file an appeal against the penalty. So far the total costs of “dieselgate” for Volkswagen have exceeded €30 billion.
