Pema Khandu will be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on May 29, Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Home Affairs informed on Twitter. This comes after Arunachal Pradesh BJP MLAs on Monday unanimously selected Pema Khandu as the leader of BJP Legislature Party. BJP had won 41 seats in the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly.

PMO has no records of income tax refunds of former PMs: RTI reply

The Prime Minister’s Office has no records of income tax refunds of former prime ministers, the PMO said this in a reply to an RTI application filed by PTI. It further refused to share information regarding PM Narendra Modi’s income tax refunds, saying it was exempted under the RTI Act. “The information sought is personal in nature,” said the PMO.

UP Police arrests 3 suspects in Smriti Irani aide’s murder case

UP Police today arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Smriti Irani’s close aide Surendra Singh, who was shot dead at his home two days after Irani won the Amethi Lok Sabha seat. The police also recovered a country-made pistol, a blood-stained towel and a mobile phone from their possession. Police said that two suspects are still absconding.

India, Pak officials meet, discuss modalities for Kartarpur corridor

Officials from India and Pakistan met on Monday to discuss the modalities for a corridor linking Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur in Pakistan. The two nations had agreed to set up the corridor last year to link the historic Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, the final resting place of Guru Nanak Dev, to Dera Baba Nanak.

Anil Ambani may sell stake in FM radio unit for ₹1,200 cr: Report

Anil Ambani is in talks to sell his FM radio broadcasting business to media conglomerate Jagran Prakashan for ₹1,200 crore (around $173 million), a Bloomberg report said on Monday. Ambani’s entertainment company Reliance Broadcast Network plans to first sell a 24% stake. Ambani’s radio business is a unit of Reliance Capital, his group’s financial services arm.

Greaves Cotton to foray into e-vehicle battery manufacturing

Engineering company Greaves Cotton’s CEO Nagesh Basavanhalli has said the Mumbai-based company is looking to invest in battery manufacturing and supply chain for electric vehicles in the coming years. The 160-year-old firm has been known for manufacturing diesel engines, generators and pump sets. Notably, Greaves had in August 2018 acquired a 67% stake in electric scooter maker Ampere Vehicles.

Government exempted 541 startups from Angel Tax so far

Ramesh Abhishek, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade’s Secretary, tweeted, “541 startups have been granted angel tax exemption by CBDT so far.” “Rest 36 applications were incomplete, [Startup India] team is working with concerned startups to address…deficiencies,” he added. Earlier, the CBDT announced startups complying with February 19 DPIIT notification would get exemption.

IndiGo owner InterGlobe’s profit rises 5-fold to ₹590 crore

InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, has reported a fivefold jump in its fourth-quarter profit at nearly ₹590 crore, compared to the year-ago period​. However, the low-cost carrier’s profit for FY19 fell 93% year-on-year to ₹156 crore. “FY19 was tough…for the airline industry…because of high fuel prices, weak rupee and intense competitive environment,” CEO Ronojoy Dutta said.

Actor Ajay Devgn’s father, veteran action director Veeru Devgan, passed away on Monday morning after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest. He was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai this morning after he complained of breathlessness. Veeru Devgan is known for his work in films like ‘Dilwale’ (1994), ‘Himmatwala’ (1983) and Shahenshah (1988) among others.

Kerala policeman falls while singing on daughter’s wedding eve, dies

P Vishnuprasad, a 55-year-old Sub-Inspector in Thiruvananthapuram, collapsed while singing on stage on the eve of his youngest daughter’s wedding on Saturday. He was rushed to the hospital immediately after but he could not be saved and passed away at around 9.30 pm. The bride wasn’t told about her father’s demise and got married to her groom the next day.

Myanmar soldiers jailed for killing 10 Rohingya released early

Myanmar granted early release to seven soldiers jailed for the killing of 10 Rohingya Muslim men during a 2017 military crackdown in the Rakhine State. The soldiers were freed in November last year, meaning they served less than one year of their 10-year prison terms for the killings. “Their punishment was reduced by the military,” officials said.

The bidding for lunch with Warren Buffett, Berkshire Hathaway CEO and the world’s fourth richest person, began on eBay’s website on Sunday at a starting bid of $25,000 (around ₹17.4 lakh). Lupin shares down 5% after USFDA observations on Goa plant

Shares of Mumbai-based drugmaker Lupin fell up to 5% on Monday after the USFDA made two observations following the inspection of its Goa plant. The US health regulator further cautioned that the facility may be subject to regulatory action. The inspection classification will not affect the disruption of supplies or the existing revenues from operations of the facility, Lupin said.

Amul to invest ₹600-800 cr this fiscal on capacity expansion

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, which markets products under the Amul brand, has announced it will invest ₹600-800 crore in the dairy major this fiscal. The capital will be used to set up new milk processing plants and expand the capacity of existing units. The company is expecting over 20% increase in its turnover this fiscal at around ₹40,000 crore.

DLF cuts net debt by 38% to ₹4,483 crore in March quarter

Realty major DLF reduced its net debt by nearly 38% to ₹4,483 crore during March quarter with the help of funds raised from selling shares. The company had in March raised ₹3,173 crore by selling shares to institutional investors through qualified institutional placement (QIP) offer. The debt is expected to reduce further with likely infusion of ₹2,250 crore by promoters.
