Big FM will continue to operate as individual brand: Radio City

Big FM, which is set to be acquired by Jagran Prakashan’s Radio City, will continue operating as an individual brand after the deal. “There’s no question of re-branding…Big FM itself has great equity and recall in the market,” Jagran Prakashan President Apurva Purohit said. The deal, which is valued at ₹1,050 crore, will create a combined network comprising 79 stations.

RBI extends RTGS transaction timings from 4:30 pm to 6 pm

The RBI has increased the Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) time window for customer transactions (initial cut-off) from 4.30pm to 6pm, effective June 1. The transactions will now take place under three windows – 8am to 11am, 11am to 1pm and 1pm to 6pm. The minimum amount to be remitted through RTGS is ₹2 lakh with no upper limit.

Jet staff appeal to Uddhav Thackeray for airline’s revival

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday met a delegation of employees belonging to the now grounded Jet Airways. The delegation appealed to Thackeray, whose party is part of the BJP-led government at the Centre and in Maharashtra, to take steps for the private airline’s revival. “[Thackeray] has assured us that he’ll try his best to help,” an employee said.

Walmart names IIT graduate and Google VP Suresh Kumar as CTO

Walmart announced it has appointed Suresh Kumar to new elevated Chief Technology Officer and Chief Development Officer role reporting directly to CEO Doug McMillon, effective July 8. Kumar most recently worked at Google as VP and GM of display and video ads, apps and analytics. The IIT Madras and Princeton University alumnus has also worked at Amazon, Microsoft and IBM.

India, Japan sign deal with Sri Lanka to build container terminal

Sri Lanka has entered into a partnership with India and Japan to construct a container terminal at the Colombo port. The terminal will come up next to a Chinese-run terminal built as part of the Belt and Road Initiative. Sri Lanka will own 51% of the company that will run the terminal, with India and Japan jointly controlling the rest.

MS Dhoni stops bowler, sets field for Bangladesh while batting

Wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni asked Bangladesh’s Sabbir Rahman to stop bowling midway and advised him to move his fielder from mid-wicket to square leg during India’s 40th over in the warm-up match on Tuesday. 22-yr-old dies on job, Spanish delivery startup faces protests

Spanish on-demand delivery startup Glovo is facing protests from couriers following the death of a 22-year-old rider, TechCrunch reported. The Nepalese national was struck by a garbage truck in Barcelona, reports said. Glovo confirmed the person wasn’t a registered Glovo distributor but the fact that he was found with Glovo backpack suggested he could’ve been using a third party’s account.

One of 1st Apple PCs co-built by Steve Jobs sold at ₹3.2 cr

A 1976 Apple-1, one of approximately 200 units of the company’s first-ever personal computers, was sold at an auction for about ₹3.2 crore (£371,250). First designed and built by Apple Co-founders Steve Wozniak and the late Steve Jobs, the Apple-1 models were originally priced at $666.66 and officially discontinued in 1977. The auctioned piece also included accessories like briefcase.

Chris Brown skips hearing in Paris over rape allegations

Rapper Chris Brown failed to appear at a hearing in Paris on Tuesday, where he was summoned for a face-to-face meeting with a woman who accused him of rape. The accuser claimed that Brown along with his bodyguard and a friend assaulted her at a hotel in January. After being held for questioning in January, Brown was released without charge.

Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon will reportedly feature in the upcoming sequel to the 2018 Kannada film ‘K.G.F: Chapter 1’, which saw actor Yash in lead role. While Sanjay will play the role of a Dubai-based don, Raveena will be seen as former Indian PM Indira Gandhi, reports further suggested. After Fortune & Time, Meredith sells Sports Illustrated for $110 mn

US media company Meredith has agreed to sell Sports Illustrated to entertainment company Authentic Brands for $110 million. Meredith last year sold Time magazine to Salesforce’s billionaire Founder Marc Benioff for $190 million and Fortune magazine to Thai businessman Chatchaval Jiaravanon for $150 million. It had acquired these brands when it bought Time Inc for $1.8 billion in January 2018.

Australian pilots hit with lasers during South China Sea exercise

Australian Navy helicopter pilots were hit with laser beams during a military exercise in the disputed South China Sea earlier this month. China, which claims nearly 90% of the sea, has been accused of operating a maritime militia who are known to use lasers to warn off other vessels that may be getting too close to them.

7 men booked for raping, setting ablaze 14-year-old UP girl

The UP police has booked a brick kiln owner and six other men for allegedly raping and killing a 14-year-old Dalit girl by setting her on fire in Muzaffarnagar district. The body of the girl was found in a charred state at her makeshift home. Her parents had gone to a nearby town to buy medicine when the crime occurred.

NIA team reaches Sri Lanka to probe ISIS link in bombings

An NIA team has reached Colombo to investigate possible links between two Islamic State modules that it recently busted, and Zahran Hashim, the mastermind of the Easter Sunday bombing in Sri Lanka. Hashim had spent a few months in Kerala and Tamil Nadu before the bombings and had met several young men. Over 250 people were killed in the bombings.

MP bride runs away with priest 2 weeks after he performed her wedding

Two weeks after her marriage, a 21-year-old woman eloped with the priest who performed her marriage rituals with another man in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district. The woman allegedly also took jewellery worth ₹1.5 lakh and ₹30,000 cash with her. The family members of the priest, who is reportedly a father of three, are also missing, the police said.

World’s 1st digital-only ‘dress’ sold for over ₹6.6 lakh

Dutch startup The Fabricant, blockchain startup Dapper Labs and artist Johanna Jaskowska have sold world’s first digital-only ‘dress’ called Iridescence for $9,500 (over ₹6.6 lakh) on the blockchain. It was designed using 2D garment pattern-cutting software and 3D design software, along with film rendering tools. We actually sold one of our items that has never been physical, The Fabricant said.

Pak Army opens fire at unarmed Pashtuns in Waziristan; many killed

The Pakistani Army allegedly opened fire at unarmed protesters belonging to the Pashtun ethnic minority in the Waziristan region last week, killing several people. Two MPs of Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement were reportedly leading a procession when firing broke out. The Army said it exchanged fire with protesters when they attacked a security post in the northwest, near the Afghan border.

Dunzo in talks to raise $50 mn in Lightbox-led round: Report Venture capital firm Lightbox is reportedly in talks to lead an about ₹349 crore ($50 million) funding round in Google-backed hyperlocal delivery startup Dunzo. The report added the startup expects to close the deal in the next month or two. Launched on WhatsApp in 2015, the Bengaluru-based startup has raised $30.3 million in disclosed funding to date, as per Crunchbase.
