Khan had said that an all-out conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations would reverberate far beyond their borders. The petitioner, Sudhir Kumar Ojha, has sought that Khan be tried for waging war against India and other offences.

Huawei begins making 5G base stations without parts from US

Telecom equipment maker Huawei said it has begun making 5G base stations without components from the US. This follows US blacklisting Huawei in May over concerns of espionage by the Chinese government. Huawei said it will mass-produce the 5G base stations starting October and expects to produce 1.5 million units next year, compared with 600,000 units estimated for this year.

WhatsApp, Facebook to share messages with UK Police: Report

US-based social media platforms including Facebook and WhatsApp may reportedly have to share encrypted user messages with the UK police under a new treaty between the two nations. The treaty would require such firms to share information for probes into individuals suspected of serious criminal offences like paedophilia and terrorism, the Bloomberg reported. The accord may be signed in October.

India’s ₹88 lakh crore debt burden worrisome: Congress

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate on Saturday claimed that India has a “worrisome” debt burden of ₹88.18 lakh crore at the first financial quarter of 2019. “This is a 4% jump from the previous quarter i.e. a rise in debt by ₹3.5-4 lakh crore,” she said. It seems the government has no plans to deal with the economic slowdown, Shrinate added.

Mugabe buried in home village as dispute over final resting place ends

Former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe was buried in his home village of Kutama on Saturday, ending a dispute between his family and the Zimbabwe government over his final resting place. President Emmerson Mnangagwa had pushed for Mugabe to be buried at a monument for liberation war heroes. Mugabe passed away aged 95 on September 6 in a hospital in Singapore.

Trump told Russians he wasn’t concerned about election meddling: Report

US President Donald Trump told two Russian officials at a meeting in 2017 that he wasn’t concerned about Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election, the Washington Post reported. Trump told the Russians that the US had carried out similar operations in other countries, the report added. Trump also reportedly provided classified information to the Russians at the meeting.

PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline extended from Sept 30 to Dec 31

Finance Ministry in a notification on Saturday announced the deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar has been extended from September 30 to December 31, 2019. The government is yet to notify the implications in case the linkage isn’t done by the specified deadline. The rule regarding the consequences of not linking PAN with Aadhaar was revised in the 2019 Budget.

UK PM Boris Johnson may face investigation for the offence of misconduct in public office for allegedly giving favours to US businesswoman Jennifer Arcuri when he was London’s Mayor. Johnson is alleged to have given Arcuri sponsorship monies and access to trade missions. Johnson allegedly used his position as Mayor to benefit and reward Arcuri on more than one occasion.

Russia has said it hopes the US won’t release confidential details of phone calls between President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. Russian spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said it wasn’t a normal diplomatic practice to release confidential details of such calls. He made the comment when asked about release of a transcript of Trump’s call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

US judge blocks Trump’s bid to detain migrant children indefinitely

A US judge on Friday blocked new rules by President Donald Trump’s administration that would have allowed government to keep migrant children in detention facilities with their parents indefinitely. The judge said the rules conflict with a 1997 settlement agreement that requires government to release migrant children caught on the border as quickly as possible to relatives in the US.

57-year-old climbs 42-floor building without ropes in 20 minutes, held

Alain Robert, a 57-year-old man from France, reached the top of a 154-metre, 42-floor building in German city of Frankfurt in 20 minutes. Robert climbed the building without permission and without using any safety equipment. He was arrested by the police after descending from the glass structure. Robert has scaled more than 100 structures without safety equipment.

Launch of Facebook’s Libra could be delayed: Libra executive The planned launch of Facebook’s digital currency Libra in June 2020 may be delayed by one or two quarters due to recent regulatory concerns raised worldwide, Libra Association MD Bertrand Perez said. Earlier, Germany and France announced they would block Libra in Europe, citing risk to nations’ “monetary sovereignty”. Perez added talks were on with global regulators to address concerns.
