Government bans export of all varieties of onions amid rising prices
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has banned the export of all varieties of onions with immediate effect amid rising prices. “Export policy of onions is amended from free to prohibited till further orders,” the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said. Price of onions touched as much as ₹80 per kilogram in several states across the country.
73 dead in 4 days amid heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh
At least 73 people have died in four days in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh, with the state government sounding a red alert in several districts. An alert has also been sounded in Bihar where rainfall caused waterlogging in streets of Patna and other areas. The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in both the states.

Porn star Stormy Daniels has settled a lawsuit against US city of Columbus for $450,000 (over ₹3 crore) over her arrest at a strip club. Daniels had claimed that the police arrested her in retaliation for her claim that she had an affair with President Donald Trump. Police had arrested her on a misdemeanour sex offence for touching three customers.
36 killed as bus with flat tyre hits truck on expressway in China
At least 36 people were killed and 36 others were injured in China’s Jiangsu province when a bus with a flat tyre collided with a truck on Saturday. The bus was carrying 69 people when it crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the freight truck on the Changchun-Shenzhen expressway. The expressway reopened after eight hours of rescue work.

8 Sikh prisoners serving life term to be released on Gurpurab
Ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev (Gurpurab), sentences of nine Sikh prisoners are to be given special remission by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as a humanitarian gesture. While eight prisoners on life sentence will be released in November, the sentence of ninth prisoner, on death row, has been commuted to life imprisonment.
Reducing oil imports can achieve $5-tn economy goal: Gadkari
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that reducing crude oil imports can help achieve India’s $5-trillion economy goal. He added that using biofuels like ethanol and butanol instead will help save foreign exchange and also reduce emissions. Gadkari said the aviation sector imports fuel worth ₹40,000-crore, and use of biofuels by it would open a ₹40,000-crore market for domestic players.
