Studies would not bring Food
I came from a middle class agricultural family. I was born in a village called Devanankurichi located in Tiruchengode Taluk, Namakkal District of Tamil nadu. My grandfather did not allow my father to go to the school after he had completed his 6th standard. My father’s school teacher came and pleaded with my grandfather to let his son study at least till 10th as he was a bright student. But my grand pa wanted his son to work with him in cultivation of land and grow paddy. He chided the teacher that studies would
not bring food.
Without education, life will be a struggle throughout
When I was studying in the 7th standard in the only school functioning in the village, my father went to the town to start rice whole sale business as the rains had continuously failed and the farming was not tenable. He had to struggle in the new business as it was not proving to be profitable. He used to leave home on his old bi-cycle at 6.30 in the morning and return in the night. He realized that he could go to the city and earn more if he had studied. With this realization, he kept motivating me to study. “If you do not study, your life will be a struggle throughout” were the words he used very often. Later, he bought a lorry with my uncle. And then a bus after a few years.
A Turning Point
After my PUC (Pre University Course) from PSG Arts College, Coimbatore, I joined BB A at Aditanar College, Tiruchendur. My father’s constant prodding and motivation from the faculty members of my college influenced me enough to decide that I should do MB A in a reputed institution after my BB A. & apply to IIPM and I was called to attend an interview and a group discussion at Hotel Ashoka, Bangalore. “Is MGR a capable Chief Minister?” was the topic given to our batch for group discussion.
It is a win-win situation when the friends build business with trust but without Ego….We work with zeal
A Beautiful Life
When I was ready to leave for Delhi, my father told me that I was the first person in the village to go out of Tamil Nadu for higher studies. When I came to Delhi, took a mini bus from the railway station and landed at Chittaranjan park in Aug. 1977, I did not know a single word of Hindi. It was a pleasant surprise that we had fellow students coming from almost all the states in India. Though I was feeling lonely in the beginning, friendship blossomed with class mates had brought about a pleasant environment and it was a beautiful life all the way then. It was a life time opportunity for us to listen to eminent persons like Dr. M.K Chauduri, Dr.N.R Chatterjee, Prof.Adhikari, Prof.Sanyal and Prof.Shukla. Connaught Place, Nehru Place, Karol Bagh and Chandini Chowk and movie halls had become like back of our hand.
Catch them young and mould them
When it was time for us to look for a job, I was lucky to have landed a plush job quickly at Usha International Ltd . In had a 5.5 years stint (3 years Hyderabad and 2.5 years at Chennai) with this Shriram Group company. There were a few days that I literally spent 12 to 14 hours a day in the office. Here, I realized the significance of catching people young and moulding them into responsible employees.
It is a win win situation when the friends build business with trust but without ego
When Pasu (Pasupathy), my school mate and childhood buddy came from US to Chennai in 1995, I had never imagined that he would ask me to be a promoter director in starting a Software Development office. Having known a few instances of friends starting businesses and then losing their friendship, I refused to take his offer stating that I would not like to lose him as a friend. When he finally said that the friendship would become a victim only when people try to build business with false ego and mistrust, I readily agreed with him. That was how Care- Voyant ( a healthcare software product development company) was born. In the beginning it was called Kaveri InfoSys. Pasu with his team, from his Chicago office, takes care of marketing, support and implementation services. There are more than 200 satisfied customers in US. I, with the support of a dedicated team from Chennai, take care of software development services. We are working with zeal and an ambition to become a globally recognized company for providing software services in the area of healthcare
At Cult, we wish Mr. Thangamuthu takes leaps of success and makes a mark in the world of health care.
