Rohit Sinha DGM – HR, DAINIK BHASKAR

Mr. Rohit Sinha’s career has now lasted 17 years and he is still going strong. He is now in charge of strategies and concepts revolving around the HR domain at Dainik Bhaskar Corporation. Mr. Sinha was born and brought up in the steel city of Bokaro and his father was a member of SAIL. Over the years, he has evolved as a top notch HR professional with extensive experience in Training & Development. His people skills are much appreciated which has enabled him to prosper in the people leadership skies.

Mr. Sinha embarked on his career journey in July 1994 with Informatics Computer Systems. He continued there till the end of 1995, and then moved in to Aptech as network support executive. At Aptech, the intensity of traveling finally took a toll on him after three years. Mr. Sinha then got the opportunity to work with NIS Sparta. He developed his flair for training and development as he was responsible for training people in the career division. “I got a lot of confidence in training, and could see my shifting interest towards it from sales and marketing”, he says. Then in 2001, he got a huge opportunity to handle a project for Indian railways that involved training a large number of people involved in ground level operations. “This helped me sharpen my training skills especially in terms of content development which made me realize the science behind T&D”. Next up for him was Bharti Airtel which definitely turned out to be a huge learning base for him. “Before this I had the exposure in terms of science behind training and delivery skills, but at Bharti, I got to know about the process orientation”. In 2007, he was internally transferred to the mobile services division in Indore. Mr. Sinha also carried out a Greenfield 6-Sigma project at Bharti as he automated the entire training system at Bharti from end-to-end. “It is still in use and I consider it as one of my major achievements in life that I put forth something which is still being utilised”, he adds with a big smile. Then in 2008, he was asked to move to Bangalore which at that point was not feasible for Mr. Sinha and as a result he had to move out of Bharti Airtel. His next success story was with Reliance where he was involved in the DTH operations at Reliance Big TV. His destiny took yet another turn when he joined Zee Turner & later on merged with Star as Media Pro for which he was required to move back to Mumbai.

“Since I could not move to Mumbai due to the difficulty I faced last time, I decided to quit, and ever since then I have been managing corporate HR at Dainik Bhaskar”, he sums up. And as a leader, he is essentially a believer in the participative style to lead people. “Be a part of your team, and they will always be with you. Collaborate with them and give them rational targets”.

Mr. Sinha goes on to add that the role of HR in the media sector is still at a very nascent stage as such. Envisioning the role of different media, Mr. Sinha adds, “The global trend is such that print media is quickly losing its share to electronic media”. India he feels is still a little behind in terms of data usage particularly in rural areas, But in urban locales, with the advent of advanced technology, everything is electronic and people really do not find the need to read news papers. “But our opportunities are still in plenty in the rural areas”, he discloses. Being an approved expert in T&D, Mr. Sinha feels that for T&D module to be highly efficient and adding value, whatever training initiatives an organization takes, it has to have an impact and results.

Mr. Sinha has two kids – Riya who is eight and Rishit who is five. He spends time by taking them out to malls and shopping. He is very passionate about photography and feels that it would have been his alternate career. “This has passed on to my kids and whenever we get two or three days of holiday, we wake up at 6 in the morning, and suddenly we are packed and off to Himachal”. Spontaneity in life is something that cannot be taught but only learned. Cult wishes that Mr. Sinha keeps going from strength to strength.
