Q. How would define leadership? What kind of a leader are you?
A. Leadership is a relationship that creates positive change, be it anywhere. Through extensive travelling, interaction, developing a strong network, I have learnt that business is a game of networking and empowering people to become leaders of tomorrow. With strong business acumen, a clear vision and passion of reaching out to my set of goals, I aspire to take India to a level where we all feel proud to be a part of. I have grown with time by adapting myself and my ideologies to the need of the hour. My primary approach has always been understanding the customer needs and fulfilling them.
Q. What is it that Indian leaders should work on the most? How effective is Indian leadership?
A. I believe that India has had a late start in succession planning and talent management, however, we are now rigorously catching up. These activities are the strong pillars of every business and Indian leaders should look up to them. I think, culture and values of a nation drive the leadership style. Indian companies stress on strategic vision, organisational culture (with an emotional connect), and employee motivation, setting an example. These elements have shaped India in such a way that the country is now being considered among the world-class competitors.
Q. What makes Indian leaders different from the rest?
A. The differentiating factors in Indian leaders is their strong knowledge base, dedication and emotional connect (which runs as a DNA in every Indian), which specifically lack elsewhere.
Q. What do Indian employees expect from their leaders? How efficient is Indian leadership in meeting the expectations?
A. Employees commonly look up to their leaders to be the bastions of knowledge, having knowledge that they themselves do not possess. They expect their leaders to solve their queries, provide them security and lead them successfully. A leader lacking these attributes might create a tough scenario for the company and for the country at a macro level. There is no second thought regarding the efficiency and effectiveness that Indian leaders possess. However, we still need to travel a long way and meet the growing expectations of the new generation employees.
