Biggest military drills since Cold War to be held by Russia
Sergei Shoigu, The Defence Minister of Russia, has announced that, next month the nation will hold its largest war games around 3,00,000 troops and 1,000 aircraft since at least the 1980’s. The exercises will be carried out in Russia’s upcoming military event Vostok-2018 from September 11 to 15 in the country’s east with the participation of China and Mongolia

6.4 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Indonesia’s Lombok Island
A 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit the eastern Indonesia on Tuesday. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said that an earthquake hit 100-kilometre south-east of Kupang on the Indonesian portion of Timor island. The 6.4 magnitude quake was followed by another 5.6 magnitude earthquake. There were no reports of damages or casualties. There have been no Tsunami warnings.

Nawaz Sharif appears before Pak court in remaining two graft cases
Jailed former Pak PM Nawaz Sharif appeared before the Accountability Court for the hearing in the two remaining references against him and his family in Islamabad today. The Al-Azizia and Flagship Investment references are the two that were heard today by the Accountability Court II Judge Mohammad Arshad Malik. There were three corruption cases filed against Sharif.

India’s Satya S Tripathi appointed as UNEP Assistant Secretary – General
The United Nations have appointed veteran Indian development economist and UN official Satya S Tripathi as UNEP’s assistant Secretary-General. He will head the UNEP’s New York office. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has made his appointment. Tripathi will succeed Elliott Harris of Trinidad and Tobago. Tripathi is now the third Indian at the senior most levels of the UN hierarchy.
