Refugee footballer Hakeem al-Araibi, who was arrested on November 27, 2018 in Bangkok when he arrived for a honeymoon with his wife, has urged Thailand to not send him to his home country Bahrain. Hakeem, who was granted a refugee status in Australia in 2017, has been given 60 days to prepare a defence against Bahrain’s attempt to extradite him.
RCom shares down nearly 50% as firm approaches bankruptcy court
Anil Ambani-controlled Reliance Communications (RCom) shares were down nearly 50% on Monday after the company decided to go for insolvency proceedings through NCLT following its failure to sell assets for paying back its lenders. RCom’s per share price hit an intraday low of ₹6 on the Bombay Stock Exchange. RCom has a debt of around ₹46,000 crore on its books.

Around 7.49 crore people have taken bath in Sangam at Prayagraj till Sunday during the Kumbh Mela, the Uttar Pradesh government said. It added that 2.25 crore people bathed in the Sangam on the first day of Kumbh Mela. It further said that an average of 5-7 lakh devotees took a dip in Sangam every day between January 21-30.
Maharashtra Cabinet approves 10% general category quota
The Maharashtra Cabinet on Monday approved the 10% reservation in government jobs and educational institutes for the economically weaker section in general category in the state. Maharashtra has become the seventh state to approve the implementation of the bill. The Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill, 2019 was approved by President Ram Nath Kovind on January 12.

Wreckage from missing plane carrying Argentine footballer found
The wreckage from the plane carrying 28-year-old Argentine footballer Emiliano Sala has been discovered, two weeks after it disappeared from radar over English Channel. A search boat hired privately by Sala’s family located the wreckage after an official search operation was called off on January 24. Sala and 59-year-old pilot, Dave Ibbotson, were travelling to Wales’ Cardiff from France’s Nantes.
