UP faces by-polls on 11 assembly seats as 11 MLAs win LS elections

A total of 11 MLAs have been elected to the Lok Sabha from Uttar Pradesh, following which by-elections are expected to be held in their assembly constituencies. From BJP, three UP ministers including Rita Bahuguna Joshi and six MLAs have won. SP MLA Azam Khan won from Rampur LS seat while BSP MLA Ritesh Pandey would also vacate his seat.

Told party I want to quit as CM, they rejected: Mamata Banerjee

After BJP won 18 out of the 42 constituencies in West Bengal in 17th Lok Sabha elections, CM Mamata Banerjee said she told her party that she doesn’t want to continue as CM, but the party rejected her resignation. “Election Commission had taken over state administration for last five months,” she added. “I believe EVM setting was done,” she alleged.

We need Rahul as President: Congress on rejecting his resignation

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, during a press conference, said that Rahul Gandhi offered his resignation as party president but it was rejected unanimously by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) members. The CWC said that the party needs his leadership and guidance in these “challenging times”. The committee has authorised Rahul Gandhi to restructure the party, Surjewala added.

Huawei banned from using SD cards in all future devices

The SD Association has barred the world’s second-largest smartphone manufacturer Huawei, effectively banning it from using official SD or microSD card support in all future devices. Huawei has said its customers will be able to purchase and use SD and microSD cards with its products for time being. This comes over US’ ban on China’s Huawei over alleged espionage concerns.

‘Hindu Rashtra’ ruling unconstitutional: HC sets aside own judgement

Meghalaya High Court has set aside last year’s judgement by Justice Sudip Ranjan Sen who had said, “India should have been declared a Hindu Rashtra”. Terming the judgement “legally flawed” and “inconsistent with the constitutional principles”, the two-judge bench called it “totally superfluous”. Justice Sen had made the remark while disposing a petition regarding grant of a domicile certificate.

Mango Sip maker’s director, CFO arrested for ₹40 crore tax fraud

Mango Sip maker Manpasand Beverages’ director Abhishek Singh, his brother Harshvardhan Singh, CFO Paresh Thakkar were arrested for GST fraud worth ₹40 crore. Officials conducted searches across various premises of the Vadodara-based company on Thursday. Their investigation also revealed a network of over 30 fake units across India which were used for committing fraud by availing illegal credit.

Three US customers have sued Apple claiming it’s unlawfully disclosing and selling people’s iTunes purchase information and personal data. The lawsuit called the claims as contrary to Apple’s ‘What happens on your iPhone, stays on your iPhone’ advertising. They are seeking $5,000 for each iTunes customer in Michigan whose information was disclosed and $250 for each one in Rhode Island.

Apple has reportedly acquired US-based startup for asthma-monitoring in children, Tueo Health, for an undisclosed amount. Tueo COO Anura Patil and CEO Bronwyn Harris changed their employers from Tueo to Apple in late 2018 on LinkedIn, the report revealed. Notably, Apple CEO Tim Cook had said earlier this month that the technology giant buys a company every few weeks.

Indian Army officer appointed head of UN Mission in South Sudan

Lieutenant General Shailesh Tinaikar has been appointed as the new Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
