Actor Vivek Oberoi had mistakenly promoted Salman Khan starrer ‘Bharat’ on Twitter by using ‘#Bharat’ when he tweeted to congratulate PM Modi on the occasion of his swearing-in ceremony on Thursday. In the tweet, the film’s Twitter emoji was also visible. After Twitter users spotted it, the actor deleted the post and tweeted again with the correction.

Kohli injures thumb during practice ahead of WC opener: Reports

India captain Virat Kohli reportedly injured his thumb during practice at Ageas Bowl stadium in Southampton on Saturday. Physiotherapist Patrick Farhart was seen applying spray on the 30-year-old’s right thumb. Kohli was also seen leaving the ground with his thumb immersed in ice water. India are scheduled to play their first 2019 World Cup match against South Africa on Wednesday.

Water purifier made with rose-inspired structure costing ₹1.5

University of Texas at Austin researchers developed a new rose-inspired water purifier, with each flower-like structure costing less than about ₹1.5. Researchers developed a new kind of solar-steaming system from layered, black paper sheets coated with a special polymer and shaped into petals. Each structure can produce over half a gallon of water per hour per square metre, researchers claimed.

World’s most expensive telescope’s parts cleared for use in space

NASA’s $8.8-billion James Webb Space Telescope, the world’s largest and most expensive one, has successfully passed final thermal vacuum test, making its parts cleared for use in space. The 6.5-metre diameter telescope has 18 gold-coated mirrors and a tennis court-sized sun-shield to gather light and protect its instruments. The telescope, set to launch in 2021, took 20 years to build.

Former J&K CM Omar Abdullah calls terrorist Burhan Wani ‘sahib’

In an interview, former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah referred to former Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani as “sahib”. Omar said this after he was asked about his views on suspension of internet services after death of J&K’s most wanted terrorist Zakir Musa. Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter in J&K’s Anantnag district in July 2016.

Pak officials turn away guests at Indian embassy’s Iftar party

The guests and Indian diplomats, who were invited at an Iftar party organised by the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, were “aggressively” turned away by Pakistan officials. “We apologise to all our guests…Such intimidation tactics are deeply disappointing,” Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria said. This is also “counter-productive for our bilateral relations”, the Indian envoy added.

India was the largest beneficiary of the US’ Generalized System of Preferences in 2017 with around $5.7 billion in exports to US given duty-free status, according to a Congressional Research Service report. In 2018, some $6.3 billion of Indian merchandise exports to the US were covered by GSP. US will end its preferential trade treatment for India on June 5.

Apple to let users download up to 200 MB apps on mobile data

Apple has raised the size limit of individual apps that can be downloaded from its App Store using mobile data to 200 MB from the past 150 MB. However, to download apps bigger than 200 MB in size, users will need to use WiFi. Apple had officially increased the App Store cellular download limit to 150 MB in September 2017.

Referring to India’s partition and formation of Pakistan, Maharashtra BJP leader Madhav Bhandari on Sunday said that Muslims were given their share in 1947. Responding to AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s statement that Muslims are not tenants in India, he added, “It’d be good if Owaisi Sahab speaks before due consideration.” Bhandari further said no one has called Owaisi a “tenant”.

8 JD(U) leaders join Bihar Cabinet as ministers; none from BJP, LJP

Eight JD(U) leaders (five MLAs and three MLCs) on Sunday took oath as ministers in Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s government as part of the Cabinet expansion. However, no minister from the state coalition partners, the BJP and LJP, was inducted into the Cabinet in the latest expansion. Kumar said JD(U) leaders were inducted on the party quota in the Cabinet.

3 held with fake currency worth ₹5.92 lakh from Moradabad

Police on Saturday arrested three persons and recovered fake currency worth ₹5.92 lakh, all of the denomination of ₹2,000 from them in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad. The operation was initiated based on information received from reliable sources, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Lallan Singh said. A search operation to nab those who printed the fake currency is underway, Singh added.

1 jawan martyred, 4 injured in Naxal encounter in Jharkhand

At least one jawan was martyred and four others were injured in a Naxal encounter in Jharkhand’s Dumka on Sunday, police said. As per information, “four to five Naxals have been shot”, Superintendent of Police, YS Ramesh, said. According to reports, the concerned authorities are monitoring the situation and all the injured are being shifted to a nearby hospital.

Over 50 vehicles gutted in dumping ground fire in Delhi

More than 50 vehicles were gutted in a fire at a police station dumping ground situated near Delhi’s Sagarpur on Saturday. Reportedly, it took nearly an hour for the Delhi Fire Services personnel to douse the flames. Another fire broke out on the second floor of the NDMC building in Connaught Place yesterday, the city’s Fire Service said.

Three-time champion Serena Williams crashed out of the French Open in the third round after losing to world number 35 Sofia Kenin on Saturday. The 20-year-old Kenin won the match with the scoreline of 6-2, 7-5 in 92 minutes. It was the 37-year-old Serena’s first loss in the first week of any major since Wimbledon in 2014.

Neymar used violence to have sex: Woman accuses footballer of rape

An unidentified woman has accused Brazilian footballer Neymar of raping her after inviting her to Paris last month. The woman, who claimed they met after exchanging Instagram messages, alleged that they “touched each other, but…Neymar became aggressive and, with violence, had sexual intercourse against [her] will”. Neymar’s father, who’s also his agent, has however called it a case of “blackmail”.
