200 kg marijuana seized in Hyderabad, 2 arrested
Hyderabad Task Force Police arrested two persons, Shaik Arif and Shaik Sameer, and seized 200 kilograms of marijuana (ganja) from them in the city. During interrogation, Arif confessed that owing to the lack of a sustainable source of income they both decided to earn easy money by selling ganja. Police have recovered a car and a cell phone from them.
Pre-monsoon rainfall second-lowest in 65 years: Skymet
The pre-monsoon rainfall in India in 2019 was the second-lowest in 65 years, with the lowest being recorded in 2012, private weather forecaster Skymet Weather said. The three-month pre-monsoon season (March, April and May) ended with a rainfall deficiency of 25% this year. In 2019, the country received 99 mm of pre-monsoon rainfall as against the average of 131.5 mm.
CAG of India Rajiv Mehrishi elected external auditor of WHO
Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Rajiv Mehrishi has been elected as external auditor of the World Health Organization (WHO) for four years. Mehrishi was elected at the 72nd WHO Assembly in Geneva last month with a majority. Currently, he’s also on the Board of Auditors of the United Nations and Vice-Chair of the UN Panel of External Auditors.
Mass puffin die-off possibly linked to climate change: Study
The deaths of estimated thousands of tufted puffin birds in the Bering Sea in late 2016 to early 2017 may be partially attributed to climate change, a study stated. Scientists believe the birds starved to death. They suggest climate-driven shifts in prey abundance and/or distribution, combined with onset of moult (when birds shed their old feathers), may have caused this.
US ban won’t affect Huawei aviation tech business: Official
The US’ ban on Huawei has had “no effect” on the Chinese company’s aviation tech business despite several countries taking steps to block its mobile services, a top company executive said. Huawei provides communication technology services to over 15 airlines and 50 airports including those in Dubai and Singapore. Customers pledged to “keep cooperating” with the firm, the executive added.

Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves is in talks to star with Angelina Jolie in Marvel Studios’ upcoming adaptation of the comic book series ‘The Eternals’, as per reports. Delhi HC rejects plea seeking stay on release of ‘Bharat’
The Delhi High Court rejected a petition which sought a stay on the release of upcoming Salman Khan starrer ‘Bharat’. The petitioner, Vikas Tyagi, claimed that the title violates a legal act which prohibits the use of the word ‘Bharat’ for commercial purposes. The court stated that the petition was premature as the petitioner is yet to watch the film.

Delhi man objects to urinating in public, thrashed to death
A 27-year-old man was allegedly thrashed to death by his neighbours for objecting to public urination in South Delhi in the early hours of Monday. The victim, who was facing 17 criminal cases, had slapped a 65-year-old man for urinating as there were women living nearby. Following this, the man’s family thrashed him and hit him with a cement slab.
Pet dog keeps barking at tiger to save owner’s life in MP
Twenty-two-year-old Pancham Gajviya was saved by his pet dog after a tiger attacked him in Seoni district, Madhya Pradesh. Gajviya said, “The tiger stood over me, on my hands, but before it could get at my throat, the dog started barking.” Alerted by the dog’s barks, villagers came to his rescue and the tiger melted back into the forest.

Delhi man arrested for killing wife by setting her on fire
The Delhi Police have arrested a businessman who allegedly set his wife on fire and tried to make her death look like an accident. The accused, a gambling addict, allegedly murdered his wife following an argument and later fled the crime scene. Their 17-year-old daughter, who suffered burns on her body while trying to save her mother, informed the police.
