“I Always Strive For Excellence & Never Settle For Good.”

Raju Vaziraney, President Som Distilleries & Breweries Ltd shares his secrets of success.

What are your most powerful leadership techniques Raju Vaziraney

(RV): My most powerful Leadership Traits are as under

a) Never delegate “upwards “ . In other words I take my own decisions and never send it to my Chairman for a decision. This us difficult since it took me time to win over confidence of my boss which requires immense hard work . Once achieved , this confidence leads to credibility and the power to take decisions remains with me.

b) Make yourself available always and never tell your boss you are busy . Most corporate leaders show that they are always busy hence they very often miss out on getting the important work . Once I show that I am available I am able to snatch power and the important work from my boss

c) Make my boss lean on me . This is possible when I take away the burden of my boss on a day to day basis . This makes him concentrate on top strategies leading to my getting power and leadership In my previous companies I followed this with so much success that as my boss went on to become the MD of the company I grew along with him and from the GM became the President.

d) The enemy of excellent is good . I always strive for excellence and never settle at good work

e) Become tall besides big . I became the President when I was 39 years old – 16 years back . Once I became the President -,I convinced my boss in my previous company to make me the COO and I had a President reporting to me !!

f) Grow people organically This corporate world is ruled by average people with superlative traits . Geniuses are scientists or engineers etc. Narayan Moorthy, Aziz Premji, Dhiru bhai Rahul Bajaj ,Ratan Tata are average people with superlative qualities

If you grow people from within organization they are loyal and attain skills as per the requirement of the job .

What are the self-mastery secrets that make you the world class leader that you are?

(RV): a) Disciple England ruled the world because of disciple &regimentation

b) Control over self I have never worn jeans or T shirts on working days .I have never been late. I miss breakfast atleast two times a week but I am in office before time .

What according to you is the one most important quality of a leader ?

(RV): Delegate !! If a person has to grow up he has to desist from doing easy routine work . He has to concentrate on the difficult and important job at hand.

strictly follow the Four Quardrants matrix. As a leader I have to spend at least half of my time on jobs which are important but not urgent . Urgent firefighting I gradually leave to my subordinates whom I groom as leaders . Like I became the COO and had President reporting to me I believe in creating higher jobs for my subordinates too. This is possible when you learn to delegate.
