5-year-old twins kidnapped at gunpoint from school bus in MP
The five-year-old twins of a businessman in Madhya Pradesh were kidnapped at gunpoint from their school bus in Chitrakoot on Tuesday. Two armed men boarded the bus and held the conductor, the driver and two women attendants at gunpoint while abducting the twins. The kidnappers have not made a ransom call yet, the police said.
Bihar Governor’s tent catches fire at Kumbh, officials rescue him
A third incident of fire took place at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Tuesday night. The fire erupted at the tent in which Bihar Governor Lal Ji Tandon was staying. Bangladesh-bound drugs worth over ₹1 cr destroyed in Tripura
The Tripura police destroyed over 20,000 bottles of Bangladesh-bound cough syrup and almost 2,000 kg of marijuana worth over ₹1 crore on Tuesday, as part of an anti-narcotic drive. While the marijuana was burnt, the bottles of cough syrup were crushed under a road roller on the outskirts of state capital Agartala.
CRPF jawan held for sexually harassing woman at Goa beach
A 43-year-old CRPF jawan was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly sexually harassing a woman in Goa, said the police. The woman accused Rajvir Prabhudayal Singh of using vulgar language and inappropriately touching her while she was bathing at Calangute Beach, as well as assaulting her husband. The incident occurred when she was at the beach with her husband and children.

Driver stops bus to save 50 passengers before dying of heart attack
A Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus driver suffered a heart attack while driving and stopped the bus on the side of the road to save around 50 passengers in the vehicle. The 47-year-old driver reportedly collapsed on the steering wheel after stopping the vehicle, following which he was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

Shell invests in Alphabet’s power-generating kites project
Oil group Royal Dutch Shell has invested in power-generating kites project Makani, helping to make it an independent venture within Alphabet. The details of Shell’s minority investment were not disclosed. Founded in 2006, US-based Makani has developed commercial-scale prototype kites that use a wing tethered to a ground station to efficiently harness energy from the wind to generate electricity.

90 positive swine flu cases reported in a day in Rajasthan
One person died while 90 others were tested positive to swine flu on Tuesday in Rajasthan, reports said. Between January 1 to February 12 this year, 113 deaths and over 3,110 positive swine flu cases have been reported from across the state. Meanwhile, as many as 79 fresh cases of swine flu were detected in Rajasthan on Monday, reports added.
3 artists from rural India win snow sculpting contest in Japan
Three Indian youths defeated 11 teams from eight countries to win the International Snow Sculpting Competition Japan Cup 2019. Team India Abhyuday’s Ravi Prakash, Sunil Kumar Kushwaha and Rajnish Verma, whose winning sculpture was Lord Vishnu’s Varaha Avatar, hail from villages in Bihar, MP and UP respectively. Scientist claims 100% cure for cervical cancer-causing HPV
Mexican researcher Eva Ramón Gallegos has claimed 100% cure for cervical cancer-causing human papillomavirus (HPV) after a 20-year research. Non-invasive photodynamic therapy (PDT) conducted on 29 Mexico City women and 420 patients during clinical phase was reported successful. The therapy removes damaged cells without affecting healthy structures, potentially reducing death rate, scientists said.
CBI arrests Indian Oil GM for allegedly accepting ₹2L bribe
The CBI on Tuesday arrested state-run Indian Oil’s General Manager Dibyajyoti Datta in Assam’s Guwahati for allegedly receiving bribe of ₹2 lakh from a business representative. The CBI had received a tip-off that Datta demanded bribe for allotting a petroleum outlet in Nagaland’s Tuli. Datta had assured them of securing the site by manipulating computer systems, the CBI said.
Turkey detains 730 people linked to 2016 failed coup
Turkey on Tuesday detained nearly 730 people over alleged links to the failed coup in 2016. Authorities had originally ordered the arrest of 1,112 people over suspected ties to cleric Fethullah Gülen, whom Turkey blames for leading the failed coup against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Over 31,000 people have been convicted or jailed in Turkey over suspected links to Gülen.
Sri Lanka hiring executioners to hang drug traffickers
Sri Lanka has begun advertising for executioners as the country is set to resume the use of capital punishment for drug traffickers in the next two months. No one has been executed for any crime in Sri Lanka since 1976 as all death penalties have been commuted to life in prison since then.
