India rejects bid by US, others to deny policy space at WTO

India has rejected attempts by the US and other countries to bring in “differentiation” to deny policy space to India and other developing countries in multilateral trade pacts, trade ministers said. India said it “cannot agree to any approach which undermines the centrality of development dimension in the WTO.” South Africa and the Africa-Caribbean-Pacific coalition supported India’s position.

Jet Airways Founder offloaded over lookout notice: Officials

Jet Airways Founder Naresh Goyal, along with his wife Anita, was on Saturday stopped from leaving the country due to a lookout circular issued by the Home Ministry, officials said. The couple was offloaded from a Dubai-bound Emirates flight by immigration authorities at Mumbai airport. Both of them had stepped down from the Jet Airways board in March.

UK company switches to 4-day work week after giving everyone raise

Portcullis Legals, a law firm in UK’s Plymouth, has switched its entire workforce to a four-day work week after giving the entire staff a pay raise. “The initial results have been heartening – our team is happier and our customers are receiving better service,” the company’s Managing Director said. The four-day work week was introduced permanently after a five-month trial.

Man arrested for stalking ex-classmate who rejected his proposal

A 23-year-old Hyderabad man has been arrested for cyber stalking and sexually harassing his ex-intermediate classmate on social media after she rejected his proposal. The woman blocked him on WhatsApp for sending ‘unscrupulous messages’ after which the man created a fake Facebook account and posted photos of her with sex soliciting comments. The man is employed in a private firm.

Tyres were used as chairs at Surat coaching where 22 died in fire

Presence of inflammable materials including tyres that were used as chairs at the Surat coaching class hampered the fire fighting operation at Takshashila Complex where 22 students died on Friday, Gujarat Chief Secretary JN Singh said on Sunday. The ceiling of the institute was just five feet high. This is why the owner used tyres instead of chairs for seating.

Chinese chip giant SMIC to delist from NYSE after 15 years

Chinese chipmaker Semiconductor Manufacturing International (SMIC) will apply for ‘voluntary delisting’ of its American depositary shares (ADSs) from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) after about 15 years. It cited administrative costs of maintaining ADSs’ listing on NYSE, among other reasons for the development. “It has nothing to do with trade war and Huawei incident,” the chipmaker told CNBC.

Boring Company holds race between Teslas on road and in tunnel

Elon Musk-led tunnel digging startup The Boring Company tweeted a video of a race it staged between a Tesla car travelling in normal road traffic and one reportedly using its California test tunnel. The car in tunnel finished race in over a minute travelling at top speed of about 200 kmph, as compared to the on-road car’s over four minutes.
